I am using 3" for the bottom drain and 2" for the rest of the system. So it's ok to run the skimmer to the filter then the pump? Also how do I get water in the system when I start up for the first time? Because won't the pump be pulling air till the water gets there and my in on the filter I built is at the bottom (left side of pic) and out is at the top so that won't ever get water if it isn't pushing water into it?

All you do is fill the pond and it will do the rest for you mate via he bottom drain a quick tip though hire or buy a water meter and meter the water into the pond , it will give you the exact amount of water you'll have to treat .

See the amps? 12, my honey says that will suck electricity if you run it 24/7, like running 3 or 4 refrigerators constantly.

sort of like running a 1500 watt electric heater, all of the time.
