I saw that once in Colorado, a hawk or owl came down and snatched a mouse/chipmunk, going by foot prints.
Neat photo jb

Took a little video of the earlier mentioned "deer beds". Actually, I wanted to try out my new little intro. Nothing fancy, but I plan on using it with all my future videos. I have a few variations with different backgrounds that will be used depending on what the video is about. I also have an image in the bottom right that will show what camera I used for the video. Now that I have a better camera that takes better video, I plan to take a lot more videos when it warms up, so I decided to make my Youtube page a little "cleaner" and nicer.

I think I'll work on making the intro a little shorter. I think 8 seconds or under may be the best so people don't get bored. I may also frequently change the music, too.

I see the hoof prints so you have the proof. Those are for sure deer beds. Thanks for sharing.

I headed to the Root River yesterday afternoon in need of something other than a pine woods to photograph. The sun was out which was a nice bonus as far as warmth and for photography. Long shadows were cast throughout the woods, and the snow was lit up nice and bright.

Another day, another reason to get outdoors. Yesterday was the day, in this case. Usually this time of year the snow is too high to get out and walk, but we've been lucky so far. I saw a lot of Mallard Ducks including two domestic mallards. I also saw about a dozen Muskrats, and the highlight of the day was a Mink, which is something I've never seen before.

Here's a few shots and a video I took that includes all the photos. This is why I love my new camera. All these animals were close, but far enough that my old cameras would've never gotten a decent shot. I'm now able to photograph things that I never could.
I love how the muskrats have their tails crossed.

Here's the Mink, which walked and ran down the river parallel to the pathway for about five minutes.

and here are the male and female domestic Mallards.

It's been so warm here, our trout think it's spring already and are mating. It's bitter sweet because our largest female will lay eggs soon and she'll never look so great again. Unlike salmon, trout don't die after mating but the female's body takes a beating. Here's an out-of-focus view taken while crouched behind a bush. They spook easily when caught in the act!

How many of the little ones will survive Red? Or do they all get eaten before they even hatch?
