I think the blue birds are the ones that make the soft nests. I put up over 40 bird houses, we now see blue birds every summer. Usually 3-4 pairs. Mine are mounted on fence posts, up on poles in trees, a variety of places.

Just made and mounted #5 by my pond. I had one in this spot that I really didn't care for so I put that one up in a tree.

It's not the warmest today, but I put up my birdhouses so they're all ready for Spring. Birds also use birdhouses as a shelter in winter, so that was an extra incentive for getting them all built and installed before the ground freezes and the snow arrives. In total, I now have 12 birdhouses in my yard, 10 of them built and installed by me over the last two years. After reading about spacing and such, I could probably squeeze two more in my yard if I wanted, but I think I'll leave it be.

I also made a bird feeder with some remaining wood and plexiglass. The design should be perfect for woodpeckers, wrens, & nuthatches.

Nice job with the bird houses. The house sparrows are a problem in my yard too. The tree swallows do not mind close boxes at all. I have had bluebirds nest in our yard every year that we lived here except for this year, not sure why. We have had 47 fledglings of bluebirds since we have live here. We only get one pair per year that nest.

Thank you! I haven't had any bluebirds yet but am hoping. I had Tree Swallows last year. They are definitely one of my favorites. One of them landed on the birdhouse as I was attaching it to the pole. They weren't very afraid of me at all. This year they showed up but disappeared after a few days.

Nothing can stop JB from those beautiful long walks in the woods, neither sleet, nor hail, nor snow, not anything and then we get to enjoy the scenic photo's for free! Thanks JB :)
Always neat to see the new snow and be the first to make footsteps.

I also enjoy seeing what animals track through after a fresh snow :alien:

Neat JB on seeing the tracks. Turkeys tho better watch out cuz tis the season!

My friend up the road who has woods all around her invited me to come over to her place after a fresh snow to see bear tracks and whatever else shows up there. She says they are out there all the time but w/o a camera she only ever sees their prints in the snow or mud. I know there are bob cats around here as one ran right in front of me while walking awhile back. The cougars are the ones to beware of and we don't hear about them much but I'm sure they are up in the hills and mountains not too far from us.
