I see a lot of them this time of year, and then they are carrying a ton of babies on their backs.
Yup - like this:

(I used the thumbnail instead of full image to spare arachnophobes having to look at a huge picture. LOL) I gotta admit, though, I don't have a real aversion to spiders in general, but those zillion babies sitting there sort of creep me out. Do admire her maternal instincts, though...

I used to find them all the time in the basement, finally think we relocated them to the outside. I totally dislike spiders, do not get on me, do not let me walk into a web (totally freak), but do like to take pics of them some are really neat.

The park saw some damage from the lake over winter. Strong winds and record high water levels caused millions of damage along the lakefront. Here, you can see this bridge is no longer functioning as a bridge. The lake pushed in tons of sand. Water from the lake used to flow under this bridge, and there used to be a beach behind where I was standing, but it was all gone.

Here's this same bridge a couple years ago. You can there's been extensive damage and loss of plant life.

Visited St. Bonaventure detention pond yesterday. I consider it to be one of the best examples of how we can create small habitat restorations in our cities. It feels like it could be well out in nature, but in reality it's on a street corner surrounded by businesses and factories. Really great plant diversity here, and tons of insects and birds. It also has a half mile of pathway, and any time I've been there, people have been walking, fishing, or resting on the benches.

Normally I make a new thread for my camping trips, but I feel lazy today, so I'll just post them here. Spent a few days at the same state park I was at last month. Fun watching the cranes again, and more prairie species in bloom.

Still mostly just weeds, but I am starting to see black-eyed susans blooming and a few partridge peas. Was hoping there might be a little more going on this year, but maybe next year.
