Really really bummed.

Mowed the entire yard yesterday, i.e. back field I have been ignoring. In doing so I checked our black locust trees, 14 of them in our yard. A few days ago covered with new growth, flower buds, ALL DEAD. The hard freeze (26 and 28f heavy frost) we had two mornings in a row wiped them out. I don't know if more buds will come out. The trees won't die, but the flowers might be history. The black locust is one of our main nectar flow trees, tulip popular is the other. The tulip popular has buds out, some are blackened. Between losing hives to mites, losing our main nectar trees I think nectar flow will be really low this year.

And we are dropping to 30 tonight. All depends on how long it is cold as to how much damage is caused. Everything was two weeks ahead since Feb was warm.

Nothing you can do but wait and see. Maybe there will be some straggler blooms that have not been killed.

milk weed seedlings are growing, more coming up every day. I’ve read you need to put in a freezer to help germinate. I may have done this, I don’t remember. The seeds are 4-5 years old Goes to show weeds can be dormant for a while, 13 possible
plants so far.

I just stuck mine into the refrigerator on a wet paper towel in a plastic baggy. Then pulled them out getting ready to plant, forgot about them, they all sprouted! So I took the seeds scratched the soil put the sprouted seeds on the paper towel under a bit of dirt.

Here's my time saving tip: I just plant the seeds directly in the ground in the fall and let Mother Nature do the rest!

Everything is struggling here too, I see my bird bath is frozen today again, the heater just could wait till the cold was over, tried to re set it twice, no luck, so I had to order a new one. The electrical is a mess at the pond. I see another project.
there’s a Robin that hangs out at the squirrel,feeder, she’s struggling to find worms. For some reason, where the squirrels walk on the ground, she finds worms.

I do the same, but just found these seeds laying around and figured fake them out that winter has come and gone. I have not checked to see how they are doing.

It was a neat follow the bee, I use duck duck also, but put in google to see the doodle, it was neat!

This is what our weather did to wipe out a lot of new growth, besides the black locust. Yesterday we dropped down into the 30's again.

I did some strolling in the yard on Wednesday, the golden rain trees lost all their growth also. Some of the ground covers loss their blooms. The morning it was 26f it looked liked it snowed the ground was so white with frost.
