On my ride today found this large feather. Think it's from a Cooper's hawk:

I looked it up and says no wild turkey's around here in Western Washington but I suppose one could have wandered over! I looked it up and this is what Coopers hawk feathers look like. Only thing is the feather I found has many more stripes(16) on it. It's about 16" from the tip to the feathers end so had to be a large bird.

Turkey feather seems a bit different then the one I found but still it could be one.The one I found is more pointed on the feather tip.

Although it would be odd for a turkey to be in your area, I'm 99.9% sure its a turkey feather.

Don't judge it too much by the shape. Feather shape can depend on which part of the wing the feather came from, as well as the general uniqueness of the individual turkey.

Here's my variety of turkey feathers. Most birds are protected which makes possessing their feathers illegal, but since turkeys are game birds, it's legal to keep them.

Wow @JBtheExplorer Then that means we have a wild turkey around here somewhere perhaps. I agree it looks just like the ones on your feather chart as they have many stripes like mine does. I'm saving the feather. Thanks

I hear it kills yellow jackets. They did not bother me while I was standing there taking a photo but then I was not bothering them.

I occasionally get their nests in my trees. A few times I've gotten too close for comfort. They've thankfully never stung me but they chase away butterflies all the time.

I got stung last week when I was at the air show. Not sure what it was but I'm assuming it was a yellow jacket since they're really the only thing that tends to land on people and sting them. Felt a tickle on my finger and instinct had me rub my thumb on it, so without realizing, I basically grabbed it between my index finger and thumb and it stung my index finger. Hurt like crazy at first, then burned, but after a few minutes the pain was completely gone. I've only been stung a handful of times, and oddly, twice at air shows.

That happened to me in Michigan @JBtheExplorer
I was laying in a lounge chair outside barefoot and one landed near my toes and it tickled and I wiggled my toes and it got caught in between them and stung me. My foot swelled up something awful and it looked like a yellow jacket.

The ones at your airshow were prolly mad cuz the planes were disturbing their flight patterns so they took it out on you, lol!

Found this nest today on my ride. Anyone know what kind of wasps/bees these are?

We had one on our motor home, left it alone until winter (we were not using the motorhome right then) Had the least yellow jackets that summer. We always have yellow jacket issues with our bee hives. They can kill a hive off if it even a bit weak.
They never bothered us, but we did not bother them.

@addy1 This nest was away from any houses but right on the side of a dead end road. I hope no kids walking on that road decide to bother it as it is not hurting anything where it is. This is the first time I even noticed it and I ride by there every day.
