Skunks love grubs, too. It's amazing how many skunks live in close proximity to humans. We get a lot of juvenile "oops" spraying this time of year, which is when you realize they're out there... they're just good at making themselves scarce!

I have never seen a skunk around here. When out walking or riding I sometimes smell something that smells like a skunk but maybe that could be just Skunk Cabbage that grows around here in the wet ditches. Gets a really pretty yellow huge bloom. Might stink up a pond area too much tho.

The skunk saved me, I was mowing saw a hole in the grass, slammed on the brakes. The nest was exposed but there were still live yellow jackets. They lived until that night then hot water and soap wiped them out. Lots of hot water and soap.

Shunks are welcome here.

Today's walk didn't include much nature, but it was on the lakefront again, and water is nature, so I guess it counts, right?

As some of you have seen, I've been walking the lake shore a lot over the past month. I decided to go again today and walk an area by the marina that I haven't ever walked. It included views of some notable places in the city, so I thought I'd share.

Racine Harbor Lighthouse (right) and Life Saving Station (left). Most people around here aren't aware of this lighthouse. The Life Saving Station looks decent but the lighthouse looks pretty run down, sadly. I'm not sure if these buildings are used for anything now days, but they're considered historical landmarks. I sure hope they can fix it up rather than knock it down. It's always nice to save historic buildings. The lighthouse was built in 1866 and life saving station in 1903.

Gaslight Pointe. I don't know the history behind the name.

A walk around the Hiawatha Crossing Detention Ponds yesterday.
Similar to my hike at Hawthorn Hollow last week, I found another Silver-spotted skipper on Wild Bergamot.
