Thank goodness for my little greenhouse ro play around in or it would be a really long winter. We got more snow last night again. Supposed to snow Wednesday too. I feel like we might have snow till May at this rate!!!

Now that I believe ,you do things and succeed where others fail I feel like we may get rain until then

The house right next door is empty and young owner fled back to live with his mom when he could not make morgage payments before Christmas. Now house is empty and about two weeks ago the pilot light on our furnance went out so hubby had to get it going again .... Since then the abandon house next door has not had any smoke coming out the furnance stack and it looks very cold. I think the pipes will be all froze as its been VERY cold. Last night was -34 Celsius without the wind Chili.
So i called the city to notify them and they did not care and said it was the owners responsibility... Now what? House will fill up with water in spring if nobody shuts off water?

Do local police do "wellness checks"? Maybe you could mention you're concerned as you haven't seen the neighbors, then they might check and if the house has frozen pipes, notify the water department? Just a thought.

I would think the city would come out and turn off the water at the street .I know in NJ house I had a mains outlet outside and you had a tool to turn the knob at the bottom of a long pipe .I also know here you can contact the bank that holds the mortgage by going on the county sight and looking up the address and it tells you info on the owner and the mortgage holder .Here it is the county GIS sight

I will ask around and see what can be done. Might call city hall and notify them and get advice. I just want somebody to turn off the water. In my house the water main turnoff is in basement, as are all in Canada I think, to prevent main from freezing...

Ok just called city hall again for second time. They told me they will look into it as they have records of the person utilities name under. So I will not worry as they claim they will "look into it" ???

Mine had inside also but had an outside one too .It is a precaution for the city

Nobody cares about that house and no city workers even bothered to check. I think bank owns that house as last guy could not make his payments. I won't bother to worry either then as damage is probably already done.

My mommy is improving and walking around much more down in the smaller ward (Memory Lane) and its easy for her to find her way around. I moved her down drom 2nd floor as she was always lost up there. Memory lane has more staff on hand and more care. Tomorrow we are going to have a special Valentine's brunch together in main dining area. I will get her fresh potted flowers for her room too.
She had her beautiful hair trimmed last week...
