Will that pond freeze solid @callingcolleen1 ? Glad you were able to catch more.
I think there comes a point where our weather down here decides there is just too much coldness up your way to head in that direction

We have fair weather weather, it chickens out when it sees your temps and does not want to freeze it's toes off

It won't freeze at all with those two big fish tank heaters, but water may get too cold at some point. Although when water is cool, guppies are smart and hang out around heaters.

The green 1250 watt pond heater just quit working! It was old but I only used it for a couple seasons. Looked at pond today and discovered it was quite frozen, but water was still running. It is a good thing I have a spare 1500 watt cattle trough heater and got that in top pond and it quickly melted a hole in the ice. Fish all seem fine but I am not happy about all that ice as it makes me nervous.

I think the addition of that larger upper pond last year is the main source of your heat loss.
If you could find something to cover that large upper pond, you could probably get some open water again and ensure good gas exchange.

Wow, I can't believe how cold it is ! Sorry the heater stopped working, good thing you had a back up on hand and that the water is moving.

I back washed my filter yesterday and added water. We're to get cold temps soon, but it's a windy 63 degrees today:)

Sorry about the heater Colleen. Just glad you have another one. With ice on the ponds, does the temp. stay stable? Or does the water under the ice keep getting colder? Thanks,
