oh!!!! That's what my garage is for. It's only a few feet from the pond and that is where all my electric connections are. I would put the computer in there and mount the webcam on the window frame where the wires run out. I'm so spoiled because it's so convenient to have it right next to the pond. Also it's a great place to keep my air pump and surge protectors etc. I assume I can find a water resistant webcam?

If not a cover over the top will work, like a pot with a hole cut just for the lens.

The other night I saw one of my pond lights flickering. I started watching it and there were a lot of plants moving around in one area and wasn't really windy. I figured there was some sort of animal or bird in it and I kept watching it. Finally a medium size raccoon came walking out. He was actually foraging for plants and whatever and was walking on the plant shelves. The next day I saw he had made a meal of some water hyacinths. I always thought they stood on the edge and reached in with their paws. I didn't think they walked around in the pond!

I have seen their prints in the low end of the pond, not recently though.

Be careful, Keith. I've heard that raccoons come and make a huge mess of your pond, trying to get to plants and fish and anything else they might try to eat. Might want to keep him out of your yard, if possible. Others have posted they totally tore up all potted plants from in the pond and drug the dirt around everywhere. Maybe he was satisfied with the hyacinths, so you may have been lucky. :)

Hi CometKeith, newbie to the forum here. Hope I'm not asking a question you have already answered. What filter do you have? I like the way you have it hidden with the rocks. Great looking pond :)

Hi Humbirdlover, Welcome to the forum!!! It is nothing fancy. it bought it from Menards a few years ago. It has both a mechanical filter which consists of three o rings, a bunch of bio-balls, and a uv light. I think all three components are necessary for good filtration. I also have a second pump just to have a little more water flow on the waterfall. I think it's important to have a lot of water moving to provide O2. I am actually thinking of redoing the waterfall and making it longer. I'll have to build some sort of frame to put the rocks on so I can still get to the filter. I recently bought a old milk can and put vines in it. It helps hide the filter too. Thanks for the compliment. I was a rank beginner 4 years ago and probably made every possible mistake when I started, but the last few years I have learned a lot on the gpf and it has helped! btw, we are going to charlottesville va this weekend to meet our daughter and her boyfriend. Know any good places there?

CE, The raccoons come by the pond almost every night! I have learned to deal with it, but I can't stand the skunks we have had lately. My neighbor filled a hole they were making into a nest. Hopefully they stay away now.

Oh, I'm glad to hear that, Keith! I've sure heard some horror stories about raccoons and ponds. Your local raccoons must be nicer than some. LOL The only raccoon I've had here at my house showed up WHILE I was digging my first pond last year! The dogs were barking, and there he was, shinnied up the pipe on the side of my house, thinking, "What do I do now?" So, I shooed the dogs away, told them to leave the raccoon alone so he/she could leave the premises. Never came back as far as I can tell. Usually they get into the cat food, so when the food is totally gone more than one day in a row, I know there is something else coming to eat! Here's the raccoon. The picture is really small, because I took it with my cell phone.

Thanks CountryEscape, looking forward to learning what I can from you all. Websites can tell me what is suppose to work, but I would rather read and learn from ponders who have "been there, done that" and know what works and what doesn't :)

Last year I had a family of raccoon's visiting every evening eating my grapes but they never bothered the pond. Even when the parents were around they never bothered it. Lucky I guess or they were satisfied with all the free grapes they were getting.

Comet congratulations on your 1111 post...... :goldfish: :helm2:
