oh I'm so sorry. So the goldfish in your backyard pond were smart after all for not wanting to relocate!

Keith, I think the goldfish multiply faster than the koi, or that is the case in my ponds. Or, maybe it's that the koi don't breed as soon or young as the goldies. My goldies bred last year, and they were first year babies. Put in the pond in June, breeding in July. I got them as small babies in January. This year, the babies from last year were chasing the older females, so those males mature quickly, I guess.
Beautiful babies you have there! Will be super easy to sell or give them away, I would guess. Hard to catch right now with all the plants, but easier when the temps start dropping.
I was gone this past week, but we got little over 2" of rain total. That is pretty much it (except just over an inch in 2 other rains) in the past 9 weeks. I have only mowed my lawn once in now 9 weeks come this Sat! Unbelievable, but cooler temps promised after today. Can't wait to have windows open again. Heaven!!!

Thanks CE. I'm glad you liked the baby pics! Both of my babys from a couple years ago were in on the action so you are probably right about goldfish starting earlier. I have no idea what i am going to do with them all. it's kind of ridiculous that I am trying to stay with around a dozen fish and there are 30 or 40 now. I think I have some black ones because the breeders must have crossed a black comet with a shubunkin to get the real dark black and blue shubunkin I have. Is it possible that if they crossed those and then the shuby had babies with a comet then the babies would revert to the fish used in the first place? Does that make any sense? Probably experienced Koi breeders would laugh at this because we are only talking about fish that are worth a few dollars at the most. Anyway at some point i'll be happy to give you some if you want them or anyone else because my pond can never hold so many fish as the babies get bigger. It is raining now. We have actually had a lot of rain in the last two weeks, but before that I think it might have been even drier here than by you. We have gone to Champaign a few times getting our daughter get registered etc. for college and you can see how the corn starts out decently in the middle of the state and gets smaller and smaller the farther north you drive. This was in late June i saw that so it might have changed since then but I can't imagine that with no rain the crops are doing any better. It cooled down here last night and today, and we are glad because we are doing the big college going away party on Sunday.

Good luck with your baby control! I still have not spotted any small fish in the big pond, if they are there they are hiding well.

Have a great party for your daughter! fantastic she is going to college, I really enjoyed college, way more than high school.

Thanks Addy, I was so happy to see the first couple babies and now they won't stop coming! Yes, we are going to be empty nesters now and it is going to be different for us, but are very excited for her. She got her roommate already. She is coming from China to study in the US. Several of our daughter's friends also have Chinese roommates so I guess this is a trend now of more students coming here to go to US universities.

you guys are very funny. I doubt we will get a puppie or dog again. The last situation with a dog came down to either my wife or dog staying and you can guess who won! but still not sure if I made the right decision on that one... We have two other daughters out of the house already so with 3 daughters at 1 hour each on the phone every day with my wife, that means I'll get 3 hours of peace and quiet every day and most of that time will be by my pond of course!

Colleen, It's true. The dog was sick and my wife said it's either her or the dog and I had to pick. I made a new friend yesterday, see pic. and decorations for the party.

Cool tortoise! Love the "I". You and your wife will enjoy being home without any other "family" once the girls get used to being gone full time. I called a lot the first week or two, then it was "see ya later Mom and Dad" and came home maybe once a month, then once every two months ... longer apart each time. Good luck to her! U of I Champaign is a great campus.

Thanks, I didn't post the pic of my wife kissing the tortoise through the window, but it was pretty funny. I don't think my fish would be really happy with him in the pond with them. A few years ago we went to a turtle farm in the Cayman Islands. It was really amazing to see all the turtles. The only problem is they only release a small percentage into the sea. The rest go .... well you can probably guess. Thanks CE, I think she will be so busy she will miss us some, but not nearly as much as we will miss her. We already bought football tickets for fathers weekend and booked rooms for every major parent event already. Our middle daughter invited us to visit her and her boyfriend in DC for labor day. Hopefully that will take some of the sting away for my wife of the little one leaving. Oh, everyone at the going away party loved the pond. My father n law is worried what I am going to do with the babies. He loves watching the fish! Here is another I. Our oldest daughter made it.
