Only a koi person would notice that!
Lol I think I might be a little more aware of those things because we just came back from Los Angeles where we we did a tour at Warner Brothers. It was actually pretty interesting and you see how much work goes into everything. We went into a set where they are filming All American. Also saw where the studios were for Young Sheldon, Ellen, and the locations Gilmore Girls was shot as well as numerous other tv shows and movies like Friends and Harry Potter.

Yep I never name them but still I grieve whenever I lose one :(
JW. This the scene where the main character as played by Will Ferrell finds his dead Koi. Poor Adam!

told them, told them all; and you can't get sick...
I think some of mine have koi pox. Heard that goldfish can get it too but mine have never been around any koi unless it was before I got them. If it is that there nothing I can do for them, just let them be w/those darn ugly lumpy things. Heard that when the weather gets warmer it may get better. I have my doubts.

might be tumors; I've had some gf with that. Unfortunately, most have died but it took a few seasons. They acted just fine and one day, I'd find one or two either gone or dead. I'm pretty sure they get these when the water conditions are not great. Most of the ones I saw happened before I expanded. Like you said, not much you can do, but do test the water maybe a bit more often just to be sure everything is hunkie dorie. If I had to guess, I saw more of this in early summer/late spring (when I first noticed, that is) though more often when they died, it was from coming out of winter, so maybe it affects them harder, at that time. Not an expert re tumors and fish...

Sorry that happened. Usually late spring is the most dangerous time for my pond. The beneficial bacteria (bb) hasn’t multiplied enough to keep up with the ammonia and nitrites the fish are producing. My pond is pretty crowded so I don’t feed much until I think the bb has come on strong. Winter has never really been a problem or any other season for that matter. Two years ago I got a new pump and filter and I miscalculation when the pond had cycled. Other than that one time I haven’t really had any issues in the last 10 years.

So I can’t resist posting one pic from my trip. We were on our way to Big Sur and had to take a detour because of mudslides. We took a mountain road highway 46 towards Paso Robles and made a stop to take some pictures here because it was so nice.

I guess I have to add a pic from Joshua Tree to because that was great too. That’s our daughter standing on top of the rock heap!

That is a neat area, love those trees. I do miss the scenery out west, had it for 50ish year, sure don't miss the heat in Phoenix, even though our summers here are darn hot and humid, we get a nice winter break. I love the cold hit.
