Haven’t been on in a while… just got back from a 3 week trip and focusing on the pond now. The fish are all doing well. I lost one goldfish
in the spring but maybe old age because I bought it In 2009 and it wasn’t small when I got her. Here is a pic I took today.

Looks great, you know you are doing something right when you can leave your pond alone for an extended period and everything is fine.

So good to hear from you ! Your pond has matured beautifully and how wonderful you got away for 3 weeks and it looks this good :)
Thanks Tula. I did some cleaning of the bog before I left but basically it has been untouched since the third week of April. The only thing I have done since I came back is clean the filter. This was our first trip out of the country since Covid started. We had to show a negative test 24 hours before returning. Fortunately that went well!

Did someone feed the fish while you were away or do they do fine munching on pond stuff? I'm glad you were able to take an international trip, I know my travel loving relatives have missed it greatly !

Your pond looks very nice and hope you had a nice trip :)
Thanks JW. We went to Greece. I had never gone there before and really enjoyed it including all the people and things to see and do. Our favorite spot was Crete because they produce most of all their own food and everything was very fresh and really good especially the extra virgin olive oil.

Thanks Tula. I didn’t feed them but it was mostly in the 50’s while we were gone except for a few hot days. We have tenants where we live so they would have gladly helped with feeding if we needed it. I guess it’s better to underfeed than overfeed this time of the year so it didn’t hurt being gone. Re travel my understanding is at most popular travel destinations everyone is happy to have tourists back after a couple pretty bad years. Also there are some perks to traveling when it’s not too crowded as tours are less crowded and there are some good buys on hotels right now. Also the dollar is really strong against the Euro so the buying power anywhere in the EU is really good. 1.05 to 1.00. One restaurant we ordered delicious local wine for 1.87 Euro per glass and whole Sea Bass was only 12 Euro. Here are a few pics from our 3 hour hike in Santorini from Fira to Oia.

Thanks! Exactly… less is better sometimes right? I kept my waterfall and filter pump running all winter so I did a quick back flush of the filter before I left and I connected my bog pump at the same time. It’s nice having some redundancy in case something goes wrong. I usually don’t feed much in the spring until I know the pond has cycled so I didn’t feel waiting until mid-May to feed would hurt anything.

Wow! Look at those fish! Very pretty. And nice variety of colors.
Thanks Cas.I have actually not bought any new fish in like 2 years so I’m doing pretty well with my “addiction”. Most of the goldfish were born in the pond. I think I have about 9 Koi. They are mostly Showas and Sankes and I have a few other varieties mixed in.
