I took this picture yesterday. I have taken out my old pump and biofilter. I am using the old pump to just help circulate water and I am just running my main filter in the garage with the external pump. Yay... my water is finally starting to get clearer. I can almost see the fish a foot down now.... I have been cleaning my filter every 5-7 days and I think that has helped a lot. I normally never clean a filter so much but the water was pretty hazy before I started running it. All the fish are doing well and I'm starting to see some of the Koi really start to grow! Also saw a few baby goldfish! That's always exciting and I know there is at least one green frog in the pond along with my bullfrog tadpole.

Thanks Tula... but I’m so sorry I didn’t buy larger equipment. It has been a continual struggle to clean my pond water. At first I was cleaning my filter once a week and now I am doing it every 3 or 4 days because once a week wasn’t enough.. My pond is around 3000 gallons. I read somewhere that you should about double it when you buy equipment.. ie a pump and filter for 6000 gallons. It would have cost me a lot more money but so far I feel my 4000 gallon filter/pump setup is totally inadequate. I spoke to someone at Webb’s water gardens that this setup would be perfectly suitable for my pond. That’s why I ended up choosing it even though I ended up buying it from someone else. I even got the blower motor that goes with the aquadyne 4000 filter. The whole system is clogging up in less than a week. Before I do anything else I may get a UV filter which I don’t have yet. I did get a prefilter because I was worried about the system sucking up baby fish. It’s slowly getting better but is taking way more time and work than I anticipated!

Darn sorry to hear you are having issues with your setup. To bad you don't have room for a bog......................

Thanks Addy. I could convert part of the pond to a bog but I’m not sure if that is the best idea. There is no room for additions to the pond per my wife! Next year I may put in some netting so my plant area does better. I noticed most of my water hydrenga had their roots eaten so that might help things a little. It’s definitely different now with Koi in the pond. There are seven Koi total. I vacuumed the bottom yesterday and was shocked how many small goldfish were running around my hose. I had no idea there were so many babies in the pond!

@CometKeith , I too am having trouble with my filter clogging this summer. I run a sand & gravel filter and it's not supposed to happen :( I read where they call the clogging " channeling" of the media. We took out quite a bit of the granite grit and rinsed it well, but we're thinking we need to remove it all before next Spring and take a look to make sure something hasn't clogged the inlet.

Hi Tula. I run a few pumps just for water circulation and once or twice a year I have to remove from one of the pumps a snail that clogged the inlet.
