I'm glad to hear the fish are almost here...the suspense is killing me! View attachment 120813
I'm all for privacy as well!
Two of the showas are from this group. There are from Sekiguchi Koi Farm and are 3.94 inches.

One of the showas are from this group. It is from Isa Farms. It is 5.12 inches and this group is sold out now. I have heard of Isa Farms before and they are very well known.

The Taisho Sanke is from this group. It's from Marudo Koi farm and is 5.91 inches. With Sankes the black keeps getting more prominent with age so usually the most expensive Sanke Tosoi have only small black markings. I'm not collecting show Koi so I'm sure whatever I get will be fine.

The Doitsu Gin Matsuba is from this group. So Doitsu means scaleless and Gin is shiny metallic so I'm hoping this fish will really stand out. It's less than 5 inches.

So basically I'm getting a bunch of very small Koi ranging in size from a little under 5 inches to a little under 6 inches, but they are all from good bloodlines. They may not be the most outstanding examples of each variety, but as mature Koi they all should have a nice appearance. I guess there is an element of surprise and someone may end up with a much better than average Koi and get very lucky because they are randomly picked. Also how they mature is not always a given and they could end up better or worse than hoped for when they are adult size. For me these are perfect. I'm in no hurry for large Koi in my pond and this will give me time to work on my filtration and improving my pond as they mature. Also I see the benefit in getting Japanese Koi and this is a good way of getting several without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on each fish!

Aw. Your neighbor is going to miss looking at your pond!
Cas. Actually when we rehabbed our property they were very anxious for us to install a new fence, but then they got to really like the pond and stopped asking if we were going to build a new one. They can still see most of it from their back porch so it won't be totally hidden. Our neighbors are very nice, but it's very easy to get into their yard and this will give us much better security.

I'm imagining him leaning WAAAAAAY over the pond trying to get the perfect selfie and then PLOP goes his phone in the water. haha!
Haha. Actually he had worked on our property when we rehabbed it so he has seen plenty of the pond but..... I made a 7" mistake on the fence and it cost me over $1000 to correct it!!

Sounds like the time our neighbor paid to have a section of fence taken down from his side of the lot line and we paid the same guy to put the same section of fence back up on OUR side of the lot line. Good day to be a fence installer!

Exactly! Only 7" but the whole fence had to come down and new cedar posts installed and everything had to be rebuilt! Probably closer to $2000 than $1000. Our property is a 2 story graystone that was built about 100 years ago along with 4 other exact carbon copies built on all the exact same lots. Somehow the original builder screwed up and some of the sidewalks are on neighbor's properties. I thought our lot line ran along the edge of our garage, but after I built the fence my wife pulled out the survey and said we had another 1/2 foot we gave to the neighbor!

Well still no fish! I sat home all morning Tuesday and worked from home waiting for them! it looks like I'm going to have to wait two more weeks now to get my fish. The flight was delayed from HI and by the time it took off they didn't take all the packages. The seller didn't know it didn't get shipped and had to retrieve my package from the airport one day later..... and they said the Showas were red and stressed. So now we are going to let them fully recuperate and they will send them to me after I get back from my Memorial day holiday trip to see our daughter in SF. They are going to add one more fish to the order at no extra charge because of the problems with the various delays in shipping etc.

Update on my pond. All the fish are doing great. I lost one small fish over the winter but that was it despite -28 degrees C at one point in the winter. I raised up the edges on the low side of the pond so it can hold a few hundred gallons more. I'm guessing it's close to 3000 gallons now. My new Koi are supposedly being shipped the 29th with arrival scheduled for the 30th. It's going to be strange because with this many new Koi my goldfish will be taking a back seat.... I really like them and I think my oldest has been with me about 10 years now, but would really like some larger fish! Well it hit 80 degrees air temperature today and is 35 degrees warmer than the last few previous days so my new Hawaiian Koi should be comfortable in their new digs!
