vertigo - yeah it would have been nice if I'd been able to find something like that being sold locally, but nothing ever turned up. Guess that's a bit of a specialty item?

Both my 2 local Koi shops and the online one's I know carry them here. I cant imagine you wouldnt be able to find them where you live. Just call your local dealer, Im sure he can get them. I do think they are only for relatively large sizes (70mm and up), not sure what you are using.

Well some of the fish packed their bags and moved today... I pulled the new rosy minnows out of the quarantine tank and put them in the pond today. Of course they're still getting used to the new surroundings, but I did see them poking at the surface for food this evening.

Check this out... Instant lawn!

OK, not really. I mowed the yard today, and spread the clippings over all the dirt so I could get a feel for how everything would look once it starts growing in. Between the constant trampling over the past couple months, and adding a lot of new dirt to reshape the contour of the yard, there is very little grass actually growing in the area shown in this picture.

I've also been slowly collecting pond plants. I ordered a bunch online, and was horribly disappointed. $6 each for some sweet flag and umbrella grass, and what I got was a bare nub of a plant with little root and 2-3 stems of grass on each plant. The val (which I thought came as small bunches) and the anacharis were both in horrible shape, but have been perking up in an aquarium. Fortunately the other plants I ordered were more like what I expected. However in comparison, I went shopping at some of the local places this weekend, and found zebra grass in a 3" pot for $7, with about a dozen plants growing from it. THAT is more like what I expect when I order grasses or rushes... a substantial number of plants that actually have a chance of survival and propagation. I'm going to try avoiding ordering plants online from now on.

I ordered from one gal on line, her plants were beautiful, large and healthy, and she shipped a good amount of them. and not that expensive.

Well pretty much whole section around the tree in the last picture has had several wheelbarrows full of dirt dumped on it, followed by peat moss and grass seed. The area is nicely leveled out with a slight downward slope, and came out fairly even with the rock work on this side of the pond. When completely full, the pond water is just about level with the ground. Now I just have to keep the dogs out of the area until the new grass can grow in.

I finished most of the rock work around the pond yesterday, leaving only the last couple feet on either side of the waterfall. I also have a good idea now how to finish up the sides of the waterfall with cedar planks, and trim out the rubber liner to keep the water contained... however we've been getting a lot of rain, so I won't be able to work on that until everything dries up. In the meantime, with most of the pond edging completed, I've nearly finished replanting all the plants that were dug up around the old pond.

Had some nice sun today, so I finished cleaning up the yard around where I've been working, smoothed out the last of the dirt, and finished putting in grass seed under the pine tree. We're supposed to have a couple nice days of sun this weekend, so I'm going to try getting the cedar planks built up and put into position around the waterfall.

Anyway, figured I would post a picture of my 'grassy dirt' area. :( I'm really happy with the level of the pond. My original pond was raised above the yard, making it impossible to just set a chair next to it and watch the fish. Now I'll be able to just lay on the grass beside the water and enjoy it...

J.w - the sun will return some day :) We're getting a break this weekend, with another storm moving back in on Monday. I finished planting the last of the plants from the old pond today, and glued together the first rail for the bridge...

Oh, did I mention the little bridge I'm making? Since the new pond/river cuts across half my yard, I wanted an easy way to cross while working around the yard. I cut up a bunch of old wood into arcs, and glued the first set together today. I guess I should take pictures of that and start a new thread on the build. Fairly straightforward, but it needs to be functional as well.

Will the pollen never end? Most every day I go outside, the lower pond looks like it's covered in sulfur dust. Its so thick that I can scoop a lot of it off with the net. I guess eventually I'll have to come up with a mini floating skimmer just to take care of this sort of thing, but that's a project for another year.

Post the bridge build here. No need for another thread, I'm very much enjoying the work in progress as it goes along. Does sound like a need for some kind of skimming may be needed, but there are some options to help with that.
