Yes, I have full sun hostas here too. Some are huge- I have been moving them around the yard and trying to deal with our natural rockscape of our land here. Have lots of below ground boulders that protrude and the previous owners planted hostas around some of them.

This is a gorgeous pond and I wish you all the best with it!

So true, but if you have a yard swing big enough to stretch out in right close by ---------- :)

great soil in NJ bad clay acidic soil in VA .The few things growing on this property were scrub pines and the developer who started out here stripped hundreds of acres of pine trees before he put the 4 roads in here .I have been adding natural organic fertilizer since I bought here just to get lawn to grow and in 6 years have planted over 30 trees and at least that many shrubs and still plan on putting more in and make some natural shade ,but trees take time to grow .Any one know anything about passion flowers around ponds as I have over 30 vines growing here and I bought 1 vine 3 years ago and they get over 10 feet tall and thinking about growing them near the pond but the roots do seem to spread a lot and are tough to pull out .Not sure there safe for ponds

I have tons of Hosta's but the slugs love to eat them up and they put holes in all the leaves unless I remember to put out the slug bate which I seem to not be able to keep up with! I have heard that putting out Diatamatious earth will deter them as it is sharp and they rip themselves on it. Others use egg shells or oyster shells, basically anything sharp. Gonna have to get me a slug gun and stand guard out there..........lol.............just kidding :)

Ha! J.W. that is funny! The deer are much more partial to our hostas. I was a florist for many years and every once in a while a slug would ride in on some foliage. The day I stripped the leaves of the stem and there was a slug there- OH MY GOSH! I can't even write about it, it was so traumatic!

Gosh I've never seen the deer here bother my hostas............maybe they just don't like the side dish of slugs on them
I've heard of the beer feed for the slugs but DH would never part w/ any of that and I don't think I would ever want to touch the dish w/ all the dead in it............ewwww, that would creep me out big time and I agree w/ mouseams those slugs are even hard for me to look at..........don't know why but they are on my list of things to stay away from.........ewwww, again :)

I use stale beer or coffee grounds also as they just get absorbed and go back in the groung after it rains smae with beer you never have to touch the tray just fill it with more beer after rains some even spray hostas with a beer and water solution .They just fall off and make great fertilizer

I guess they don't like coffee cuz it's too acidic?
Or maybe it just ruins their beer high :)

Ok but I would still have to walk by there and see the stinking corpses laying in a mass.
Maybe it would be neater to just supply the bottle for them to crawl in and then easy disposal w/ no viewing.
