I think any any and i mean any shmuck can sit down and write a paper today. If it fits on sides adgenda then it will probably end up across the country very quickly . look at the media they do it every day .

I am done with this thread way to may here follow the kid from elementary school who was the biggest geek. But now he's mayor so he has to know best . I am of the generation i look at the facts i don't listen to the weather man and his idea of a snowado ALL THE MEDIA DOES TODAY AND OUR OFFICIALS IS SENSATIONALIZE . Look at the prosecuting attorney in Michigan for the george floyd case He intentional held back the whole story and i quote "to protect the prosecution "well sir in america it is called a set up. with holding evidence . It still does not excuse a knee to the throat, but go look for your selves . To many buy into what they try to sell cnn does it daily as do so many others today. Its all who paid who. You might hear a few phrases that have been immortalized way before you'd think.

Perhaps because there's no money to be made by telling people to eat better?
I would say that this is you saying it's a scam.

Scam: A fraudulent business scheme; a swindle.

"They are interested in finding “cures” that will earn a profit."
"Perhaps because there's no money to be made by telling people to eat better?"

Anyway, are you anti-vax?

All of a sudden they’re concerned about it?
Yes, because people are taking it now more because of the virus. It's more wide spread due to the media that we have which can spread the word across the globe within seconds. You did not have that in 1950.

Anyone can write any paper, that is true. However, you shouldn't discredit multiple health teams and large organizations that show why X works and why Y is a bad idea.
I am of the generation i look at the facts i don't listen to the weather man and his idea of a snowado
I don't watch the weatherman either, or the news on TV. I do my research as well, and I've shown you my sources as to why X is good and why Y is bad. So far all I've gotten in return is "media lies" or "people that have researched this their entire lives are swindling you".

I didn't say it was a scam - it's just reality. Medical research is funded by pharmaceutical companies in the hopes they can discover a drug which they can market and make money. That's business. They also provide a great deal of funding to medical schools - including Harvard. The American Academy of Pediatrics - and pediatric medical schools - get dollars from infant formula makers. Drug companies employ some 80,000 sales people to market their products directly to some 800,000 doctors. You don't have a sales force that big and active unless there's lots of money to be made.

My dad struggled with heartburn for years. He tried all the common over the counter and prescription drugs with no relief. One day he was talking with his doctor about how frustrating it was and she told him "well... my husband had the same issue and he started taking apple cider vinegar after meals and found instant relief. It might be worth a try". Cheap, effective, safe - but no money for the drug companies so no reason for anyone to advertise it on TV or in magazines or to send a sales person out to talk to your doctor about how great it is.

The media suddenly getting all worked up about hydrochloroquine when it's been used for more than 60 years is interesting to me. They should report on ALL the drugs that can have serious or life threatening side effects... they'd have no time to report on anything else.

I don't know why my stance on vaccines would matter to this conversation - is it so you can write me off as a kook? What's YOUR stance on vaccines? Are we only allowed to be anti-or pro-, or are we allowed to see something as being more nuanced than that? Do we always have to separate ourselves into two distinct camps?

But if it matters, I don't identify myself as "anti" anything. I'm pro-health, pro-personal responsibility, pro-education, pro-information, pro-make my own decisions, pro-you make yours.

I started this thread with the idea that people can discuss their own stories how they are being affected by Covid-19. Have you lost you job or changed jobs or just sitting home? Are you feeling ill or a loved one or good friend ill from the disease? What about remote learning school in the fall and how that is affecting your children? ....or other questions about how “you” are feeling personally. I did not start it so we can all debate public policy and who is right or wrong in the government. If that is what you want to talk about please find some other place to do it. Personally I have had an very good stay at home covid project by building a bog in my pond. That has given me something interesting to do. I hope everyone is hanging in there. Thank you for refraining from public policy discussions on this thread and please try to stay on topic. Thank you. CometKeith

I read that Michelle Obama has said she's suffering from some low level depression and I relate. I try my best to remain productive and positive. I work out most days, but like her, some days I feel too low. I have to limit how much news I watch or read....for instance went online a little while ago to read the news and see where our governor has tested positive.

I draw such comfort from our doggies and the beauty in our back yard.....Mother Nature is therapeutic :)

P.S. A little "retail therapy" also helps! We were at Costco and I bought a fuzzy vest thing...perfect for my pandemic wardrobe - LOL !

My therapy is buying succulents online and at Lowe's. I have become addicted to them. And I'm with you @Tula, My backyard is my sanctuary. Not sure what is going to happen when it gets cold out. I hate being stuck in the house.

I apologize for that, I believe I was the one to instigate it.
Hey reefsr no worries. I’m just trying to keep the thread from being shut down as other threads with a lot of animosity have been shut down in the past. I purposely did not name people or single anyone out. I understand it’s tough on everyone right now and there are no easy decisions. So I actually hired someone to do construction for our company today that worked in a tavern down the street from me. He is married with two children. I don’t think he is really skilled so he is going to start with demo. I’m glad I can do my part to help people that are having a rough time right now. I wish I could hire more out of work people. He mentioned he doesn’t see a good future in the restaurant industry. How very sad :(

Sunshine I hate to tell you but succulents are extremely addictive. Be prepared for them to take over your home! My neice likes them and she lives in a tiny apartment in southern CA. The succulents take up most the space, but she keeps buying more and more all the time! At some point I’m expecting her and her husband to move to the balcony so there is plenty of room for her succulents!!

H Addy. There is a farmers market down the street from us every Wednesday. In the past we would go almost every week. This year it moved even closer to us but when I see the people waiting to go in and the social distancing involved I don’t even want to go. So sad :(

Tula. That’s so sad about your governor. I hope he is okay. He seems really smart and nice when I see him on tv. I have cut down on news drastically. I used to pride myself on knowing every small detail of what’s going on. I think overall it has helped me mentally by not following things so closely. I think the thing no one know is how this staying at home is going to affect the psychy of the general population. How do you skip birthdays, weddings, funerals, and graduations, or even small get togethers, etc and not have it affect you?
