Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the nation. We can all see how well that's working out. Like you said @addy1 - criminals are criminals. They don't care if they have a legal gun when they are committing illegal activities.

I grew up with my father's guns ad went regularly with him to his gun club to shoot skeet.

After Sandy Hook as a preschool administrator I had to create an emergency plan for a live shooter and have the children and staff practice it in the presence of police. We were talking preschoolers for heaven's sake :(

@Tula - totally off the subject of Covid, but we always repeated the active shooter drills where you put all the students in a room, turn off the lights, lock the doors, and wait for help to arrive. Every year I begged our admin to see that we were just making our kids "fish in a barrel" - easy targets for anyone who might come Into that room with bad intent. FINALLY we switched it up two years ago to a more aggressive style of drill that trains students and staff to assess the situation and react accordingly. If you can get out of the building - go, even if you have to smash a window to do it. If you are confronted by a shooter, create distractions: shout, throw things, do whatever you can to be disruptive. We even train to swarm the shooter when possible. If we have to barricade in place - we BARRICADE. Block the doors with whatever is available. Teachers and students work together to come up with a plan for each classroom - maybe moving that file cabinet closer to the door so it's easier to push in front of it when needed. Who will move desks? What's the best way to stack them? Previously they wouldn't even announce openly that there was an active shooter- they would just use code words over the PA. Now they give us as much info as possible - name of the person if they know it, a full description, where they are in the building or grounds, etc. That way each individual can determine what the best action is in the moment.

It's a much better feeling - if you can call it "better" - to know that you are able to make decisions based on what's in front of you instead of reacting the same way no matter what. We also talk to our students about assessing their safety no matter where they go and asking themselves "what would I do if... ". Like going to a movie theater and consciously noting where the exits are in case of fire. Having a mindset of personal responsibility for your own safety can save your life.

That just goes to show how uneducated these wonderful people are . If this ever ha s to happen again anyone who knows guns or an assault weapon in the true word . If you are carry such a weapon there is no doubt who the perp is take away the very large weapon that they can't hide no matter how hard you tried. Now make them start to carry a hand gun and you'll have a nightmare you may never see right in front of you GOOD MOVE. For those that don't know assalt weapons that look like Ar 15 are capable of being a fully automatic weapon. However that firing pin is illegal and it has the same speed as just about every other gun out there it's call semi automatic . meaning as fast as you can pull the triger and release and pull the trigger again is as fast as the gun will shoot. so a small 22 long shell which by the way is one of the furthest traveling bullets out there. can fire as fast as a Ar.15

Ok last comment on guns and then back to the topic, however the prime minister announced it smack dab in the middle of the covid scare. That was crazy in the same press briefing, we're all going to die[covid] and by the way we are banning assault rifleso_O

It happened slowly which is a worry that Americans have. Bought a Korean made assault rifle KC-20 1983. Could take it anywhere and enjoyed it at the family farm. Then after the university school 1989 shooting where an incel hated girls and killed 14, it went restricted meaning only can be taken out to a target range or to sell. In 2000's it went to prohibited based on what I don't know meaning it stays at home unless for sale. Now its banned, they talking about options, a buy back, deactivated or export it to USA.

So today I ventured to our small Kohls to pick up a pre paid online order. Other area Kohls are much bigger then the one close to our house.

The store was so clean, all employees wearing masks, wiping down surfaces ....6 foot markers on the floor etc. HOWEVER, I was shocked that very few shoppers wore masks. Mothers pushing strollers with babies and toddlers, groups of friends and families filled the store.

I was wondering what the store employees were thinking? They all wear masks and are busy cleaning and wiping down everything.. I have to admit to wondering if I was crazy wearing a mask....did I imagine this whole ordeal?!

A little chuckle.....my friend always says " Don't carry resentments, carry a new hand bag !"........so that's what I did....ordered it online and picked up in the store :)

My tiny handbag is now 10ish years old. It carries my tiny wallet, keys and my phone if carefully put in. Oh and now a small honey bottle of hand sanitizer now.

Similar to this. I may need to upgrade to slightly bigger, since phones are bigger now.

We have 900,000 newly unemployed workers in our state.
The wife and I went out on the bike yesterday to the country and we rode through a very nice old early American town Victorian mansions some old Tudors and the southern plantation homes, and old mill buildings. Well one of the mill building had been converted to a restaurant " Remember those " Well we just had to stop and eat at the outdoor cafe . Not a umbrella and chairs on the lawn but a honest to goodness Cafe. well the menu looked great everyone was friendly. it was like a Time warp back a year. Well the waitress it seems forgot to place our order . Thank God for the old architecture of the mill and surrounding building and gardens because it kept me from leaving. I finally said something and it was another 20 minutes till we got our lunch. With apologies well when I asked for the bill the woman said there was no charge that she could not bill for that. I tried to pay but she insisted. We thanked her and left a tip and drove off. On the way back we happened to find our selves driving back by the Cafe and I pulled in the wife was looking at me like oh o... Well we got some dirty looks from some of the local blue bloods because we pulled up on a big old harley with some ACDC cranked. When i stepped up to the receptionist and asked for the waitress she got her for me and I could see from her eyes she had a little concern. I reached out to her with 60 bucks for our lunch and said I greatly aprechiated her taking responsibility for the error with lunch "5 hours earlier" and that with this Covid BS I understood people could be a bit rusty with the service industry and that I had not had three months off and I wanted to pay for lunch plus a thank you for being a rare bread today and taking responsibility. The next i know the blue bloods were hooting and hollering over hearing the conversation. And i said to them that you never know what good dead can come from a rough appearance Black leather jacket due rag "no helmet law in CT. and that you all questioned
what the abnoxous biker cranking ACDC wanted at a quaint cafe. And he turned put to be a knight in tarnished armour as my wife says.. well as we rode off they gave us a heck of a send off and the poor girl was in tears.
Speaker.
Thought I'd share something positive and try and remember what is so Great About OUR Country..

Well a new hand bag simply won't do but maybe I could get new saddle bags for the bike . But I still think that just doesn't work for me . Don't feel bad nothing much does.

@addy1 - you and I carry the same bag! I love a crossbody bag - I find a shoulder bag requires one hand to keep it from slipping off my shoulder and I always need both hands! And I love a purse that only fits EXACTLY what I need - phone, wallet, sunglasses. Keys are on a carabiner that I can clip to the strap. That way I can say "NO I CAN NOT CARRY YOUR JUNK" to my husband!

My mom is 81, is having a bit more trouble walking, but still insists on carrying her extra large purse filled with goodness knows what. She just won't give it up.

I have never in my life had a big purse, wallet, now a phone, one comb and car keys that is all that fits in mine. I totally dislike large purses, quite often just have small wallet in pocket, leave purse in car.

Mine has anti theft technology , cc's not scan able, strap not able to cut. I bought my first one when I went to Africa in 85. And as long as it is still in decent shape I don't buy new. One thing nice, it gets dirty toss in the wash.

just saw this thread so I figureed why not respond?

basically I can stay home all the time, and my parents go out. I have limited interactions to one of my friends, and other than that not much has happens, I am grateful to have my pond, as it is a great source of entertainment that doe sent involve screens ( well expet for this forum ) we have a safer at home order, and my parents are able to work from home, we arent stressi ng to much about it as none of us are at risk, but we take all precautions necessary to protect others that we may come into contact with.

Just took my pup to the vet, she had a sore/infection on her belly. Drive up call them, they come out and get the pup. Wait in car and the vet calls to say what they found. Give them the cc # and they bring the pup back out. Pretty efficient. The main problem is getting well puppy care , there are not that many well puppy care appointments.

Other than that we are still staying isolated from most people. Sort of our normal life, we never do bars, hardly ever go out to eat. The main difference is food shopping have really cut down.

Glad you joined @TheFishGuy we are more fun then just staring at a screen.
