I'm with you @GBBUDD - let's get past this and get back to who we are as a country.

Approximately 157,000 Americans die every month of various causes. Every single month.

I feel fortunate that I'm still being paid to work from home. I think a lot of people would change their minds about the "stay home and save lives" if suddenly they had no money coming in. Or they lost it all in the stock market over night.

I was taught to never gamble with what you couldn't afford to lose. And to never keep all your eggs in one basket. A lesson my son had some difficulty understanding up untill now. Hes a personal trainer and a rehab strength coach I told him if the economy tanked his health clubs would be one of the hardest hit he refused to believe it now what was one of the first to close yup health clubs.
Well I just hope we learn from our mistakes and lessened learned and not repeated. but some how I feel that's very wishful thinking.

I never believe percentages or projected numbers, especially if there's not enough data to back them up. All these numbers they are throwing out are so inflated they are destroying our economy. Those "models" projected very high numbers and now they had to backtrack those projections.
Look at the mention that America has the most cases of the virus...duh, maybe it's because we are doing way more testing than most countries.
It's OK to go to the grocery store and be around strangers, but not OK to go to work? I think if you have a job, essential or not, that doesn't require close contact with many people, you shouldn't have to stay home. Or if you already had the virus, you can go to work.

Just saw a PA state trooper on the news. He said we're not allowed to just go out for a drive. If you do and you're stopped for a traffic infraction, you will be fined for being out for a nonessential reason.
Last week a young woman did just that and the fine was over $200. The trooper said she was stopped for a tail light not working, yet when she arrived at home and checked the lights, they were all working...go figure! The ole' stopped you for a tail light in order to check you out trick...

Yea I'm sorry I have been working around others at a place where theres 13 confirmed cases but I think they took some lessons from china on how to count.
know for a fact we were around one guy tested positive. I yell every night at these people to stop spitting exaggerated or not it's close to the worst thing you can do right now. one guy steps in it climbs a ladder another guy grabs the ladder run holding it where the other one climbed wala PEOPLE DONT THINK. Ready to start dismissing people.

They now down graded the predicted deaths in the U.S. from 245,000 to 60,000.

Causes of death in 2018:
Drug overdoses: 67,000
Suicide: 50,000
Alcohol abuse: 88,000
Diabetes: 83,000
Cancer: 606,000

Total that up and it's astronomical.
So, what gives? Why do these other causes of death hardly, if at all, get mentioned? It's like they are no big deal!!

We shutter our country's economy, suspiciously heading for a socialist government agenda.

Pundits on MSNBC are saying we need to do this for another 18 months pending the development of a vaccine. If we do that Venezuela's economy will be looking good to us.

@Lisak1 , I was at Walmart a week ago and didn't see any areas cordoned off. I don't know if that has changed since I've been there or not. I know our grocery store has begun limiting how many people can be in the store. I really don't understand if someone is shopping for essentials, why they couldn't put a book in their cart....however, I had a neighbor chide me asking if jelly beans were truly essential !

I need more painters tape. Last time we had to hit the paint store, you were to call your order in ahead of time and they brought it to your car.....guess I'll find out if that has changed tomorrow.

Today, I went to one of my favorite plant nurseries. It was their annual sale on wave petunias. I had to pre order and pre-pay, come at a certain time, not get out of the car and the employees put them in the car. The lady who brought me my pansies said they're reopening next week, under some guidelines.......that made me very happy :)

Off topic but i was driving into work on Monday when i heard one of the most amazing stories from the radio. It seems that a Venezuela Destroyer confronted a cruise ship. It seems the leader who has destroyed that country is a bit paranoid...ANYWAYS HE sent the Destroyer to turn the Cruise ship from international seas and have them come to port in Venezuela the cruise ship refused as they were in international waters . well the Destroyer actually fired a shot across the bow of the cruise ship and they still refused. Well the destroyer actually ramed the cruise ship trying to turn it around and well the cruise ship had a reinforced hull for ice breaking and the Destroyer SUNK IT'S SELF ........... this was last Saturday

The reason the projected deaths in the models have been reduced is because the assumptions in the models have changed. The models now reflect social distancing. If social distancing is relaxed the death projections will rise again. It is not just the virus deaths that are of concern. Overloading the hospitals is also a problem for other patients. I was rushed to the hospital last year with a heart attack. After I was stabilized in the ER I had to wait a day for a bed in the ICU in a local better quality hospital. Overall my care was excellent. They were at near capacity. I wouldn't want to go through that experience today...I might not be here.

The reason we have the social distancing recommendations is because we have a lack of testing. Less than 1% of the US population has been tested. If we have a substantial increase in testing we will be able to identify the infections and isolate them...then we can go back to work...the sooner the better.

Both my wife and I are in a high risk category. We are thankful to all who follow the recommendations.

I agree thanks to all that see this for what it is a nasty potentially killing virus. Both of us would be a statistic if we got the virus. Health factors for hubby, age factors for me.

There is no take over the world conspiracy. It is a real pita to be on shut down, it is a real pita to see the constant changing dynamics of the virus. But imho if they had not done the lock downs, the social distancing the numbers would / could be overwhelming.

I did research for years, numbers can be made to say what you want them to say. It all depends on how they are looked at. A couple in Florida, just moved there, died within 6 minutes of each other. To them the numbers are real, it is a nasty potentially killing virus.

Per the news DC is the next hot spot, we are a good distance from DC we are also very rural. We feel very lucky.

I'm sorry to hear about your relative @CometKeith . While definitely not a sad event, we had a new grandchild born two weeks ago who we have yet to be able to see and hold. And with Easter this weekend, we will miss being able to be with our grown children, grandchildren and my 81 year old mom. And yes, Mayor Lightfoot, a lot of US take our hygiene seriously and would appreciate a haircut ourselves!

The thing that scares me - way more than the virus - is how easily we are all willing to give up our rights with no push back. The reports of people being arrested for simply being in public places are crazy. Someone deciding for YOU what's "essential" - what you can and can't buy. My local Walmart deemed seeds for gardens non-essential. Can't buy them. We see people lined up outside of grocery stores, standing six feet apart, being allowed in a few at a time. Been to a liquor store lately? In my town at least there are no restrictions on how many people can go in and how much you can buy. I can buy one gallon of milk at a time from my Costco, but beer is unlimited. My sister reports the same from CO in the local pot stores - free access, people flowing in and out like a mountain stream, and buy whatever you want. But I can't buy a book off the shelf from my local Target. People are reporting cars that are parked on streets as suspicious - god forbid you should park a car. Cars are being pulled over - without cause - because they decided to go out for a drive. My brother has to carry papers proving he's an essential worker - anyone who's studied history should shudder to hear that. A woman in our town posted that she was taking her kids for a walk and they are multi-racial: "please don't report me... they're my kids." A friend of ours has five kids - all teens, close in age. He had them out in an open field near his home, playing ball - someone called the police. The officer asked him to leave anyway so people wouldn't be triggered by seeing him there. With his own kids. De Blasio threatened to close churches and synagogues PERMANENTLY if they didn't stop holding services. Anyone seen my copy of the constitution? Governors and local authorities are threatening to get even STRICTER if we don't comply... like we're bad kids and they're the parents.

I could go on and on but I think you get my point. And it happened over night. Is it nice to see families together, doing fun things? Sure. But who knows how much stress those parents are under, wondering if they'll be able to pay the mortgage? I work in a school and we're hearing from our teens, worrying about all the things their parents are worried about, not to mention their own futures. The damage this is doing to our country is tragic.

Sorry for the rant - I'll go back to happy pond posts!
Hi Lisa. Both my wife are only in our mid 60’s , but have some conditions that make us both think if we got Covid-19 and went to the hospital the only way we would come out would be to the morgue. We have other friends that have serious pre existing conditions and are very scared. I would very much like to have another 10 or 20 years to putter with my pond or see my children and grandchildren (we just had another 10 days ago) and will gladly give up my “rights” for a summer to do that. We can’t protect ourselves all by ourselves and depend on our community to do the right thing.
