Yeah, I'm 100 miles from NYC here in the Pocono Mountains of PA. Many NY and NJ cars all around town. All non-essential movement has been restricted by the governor. I had to go over to my daughter's house, the pipe going to her septic clogged. I passed by Walmart and Lowe's and both parking lots were packed! What a joke.

The house next to me recently sold and the new owner rents it out every weekend. The driveway is packed with NY & NJ plates every weekend. 7-8 car loads of people! This type of rental has been banned by the governor, but they don't care. I'm not one to rat them out, but it's just not right.

They should stop these cars at the bridge and question them. They are supposed to self quarantine for 14 days after entering PA, (governor's rule).

Some people just don't get it. So much for trying to contain an outbreak...

In my community people are honoring the shelter in place order. My mother arrived from FL today, so I drove to her friend's house to pick her up. There were very few cars on the road. Her friend kept her distance.....and the retired police officer certainly did ! He told my Mom and her friend they are both to QT for 14 days as of mid night, in the state of OH....which is not a problem.

My husband went to the grocery store today and they are limiting the number of people that can be in the store at one time. They're also designating one set of doors for entering the store and the other set for leaving. I drove through the Walgreens drive thru to pick up Mom's prescription and the pharmacy tech was wearing a mask and she didn't open her little window...only spoke through a speaker and passed the medication through the drawer.

A positive thing I've noticed is all the families spending time together, taking walks, playing badminton in their yards, sitting on their porches :)

At the current 10,000 cases if you double every 2 days for 10 days your are at 320,000.

I know... and that's 3% of the population of the entire state. It sounds like a huge number, but it's just not is my point. And of those 320,000 how many will even need medical care?

And all I see is people complaining that people AREN'T social distancing - go to any store. The parking lots are packed. I can't even imagine what the parks looked like today in the city - we topped out close to 75 degrees today in the 'burbs. Meanwhile the mayor of Chicago is going to fine any business that doesn't follow the order to shut down, but she's able to get her hair cut because she "takes her personal hygiene very seriously" and her stylist wore a mask and gloves. The rules are just for people like us I guess, not them.
Hi Lisa. The math is about 2% people dying of the cases that test positive. So 6000 dead if 320,000 people got it in the state, but that isn't a static number and could keep doubling. We can't allow it to get out of control. Yesterday was a funeral for a family member. It was sad that we couldn't even attend the funeral because the attendance was so limited. I had to watch it on video. I live in Chicago by the lake. It was very quiet on the streets today. People are definitely taking things seriously here. I need a haircut badly too, but I wouldn't even think of doing that. Overall I like how she has been handling the crisis, but I think it sends the wrong image by the mayor doing that.

My 1 son still lives in NJ and owns a towing company and sad to say that people still need tow service ,good for him but people need to stop and think .He has had to tell several people his is towing to keep their distance .Granted he is outdoors but they seem to think he provides a ride service with the tow .With children he has to think about safety on the parkway and turnpike but he has to also think of his safety .If he gives them a ride he keeps all the windows open and makes them sit in the back seat of his trucks ,thank god he has a back seat

I'm sorry to hear about your relative @CometKeith . While definitely not a sad event, we had a new grandchild born two weeks ago who we have yet to be able to see and hold. And with Easter this weekend, we will miss being able to be with our grown children, grandchildren and my 81 year old mom. And yes, Mayor Lightfoot, a lot of US take our hygiene seriously and would appreciate a haircut ourselves!

The thing that scares me - way more than the virus - is how easily we are all willing to give up our rights with no push back. The reports of people being arrested for simply being in public places are crazy. Someone deciding for YOU what's "essential" - what you can and can't buy. My local Walmart deemed seeds for gardens non-essential. Can't buy them. We see people lined up outside of grocery stores, standing six feet apart, being allowed in a few at a time. Been to a liquor store lately? In my town at least there are no restrictions on how many people can go in and how much you can buy. I can buy one gallon of milk at a time from my Costco, but beer is unlimited. My sister reports the same from CO in the local pot stores - free access, people flowing in and out like a mountain stream, and buy whatever you want. But I can't buy a book off the shelf from my local Target. People are reporting cars that are parked on streets as suspicious - god forbid you should park a car. Cars are being pulled over - without cause - because they decided to go out for a drive. My brother has to carry papers proving he's an essential worker - anyone who's studied history should shudder to hear that. A woman in our town posted that she was taking her kids for a walk and they are multi-racial: "please don't report me... they're my kids." A friend of ours has five kids - all teens, close in age. He had them out in an open field near his home, playing ball - someone called the police. The officer asked him to leave anyway so people wouldn't be triggered by seeing him there. With his own kids. De Blasio threatened to close churches and synagogues PERMANENTLY if they didn't stop holding services. Anyone seen my copy of the constitution? Governors and local authorities are threatening to get even STRICTER if we don't comply... like we're bad kids and they're the parents.

I could go on and on but I think you get my point. And it happened over night. Is it nice to see families together, doing fun things? Sure. But who knows how much stress those parents are under, wondering if they'll be able to pay the mortgage? I work in a school and we're hearing from our teens, worrying about all the things their parents are worried about, not to mention their own futures. The damage this is doing to our country is tragic.

Sorry for the rant - I'll go back to happy pond posts!

Lisak1 has a point. Remember what history taught us? "Where are your papers?" Sound familiar? A pandemic is a good cover for a hostile takeover...a scary thought, but something to think about. Where are our liberties?

@Lisak1 , Are you saying if you go to Target in your area, to buy essentials, you can't throw a book in your cart? I have not seen that level of control in my community / state.

Correct. They have cordoned off aisles where they have decided you don't "need" to go. They allow you to make one pass through the store, all in a single file and then you check out and leave. They claim it's to keep people from using the store as a form of entertainment. But the idea that someone is deciding what I NEED just rubs me the wrong way. How far does that go? Who gets to choose? Maybe next week they decide meat is off the list. Or dairy. Or maybe we don't need internet because they don't like what we're talking about.

Anyone see the new projections from the Washington State model? Projected deaths in the US are now at 60K. This is the same model that projected 2.2 million dead and shut the whole country down. So much for models. https://www.washingtonpost.com/heal...ts-estimates-downward-not-every-model-agrees/

I agree with lisa some folks and stores have gone to a state we do not want to stay at. Or ever see again.
What I find the most amazing about this whole thing is the swine flue the bird flue , bad influenza years . you never see a graph a map day by day status across the world . I am willing to bet if you did the Covid is a few steps down from some of the other events we have already been through we just did have its spread documented in the way we do this. history will tell I hope and pray that we are just going through a flower power 60s moment with all the bs today.
