I give them a safe place to sleep, untouched woods, no hunting, so maybe they fill it is better to leave my yard alone.

I give mine fresh water in there tanks and those flavored licks and plenty of straw to give them a warm comfy bed for the winter and then fresh for the spring again to have there babies .I just love watching the babies when they peek out to see there new world .Deer that is and guessing rabbits probably steal some of it for them selves .

I think Addy's deer have a morning buffet with all the food you have growing everywhere, you can't tell what there eating cause you got too many flowers and juicy apples so they only take a nibble here and there and move on to the next treat!

Our deer come in once in a great while and take a few nibbles and then gone. So far no real damage. Love to see them too w/ their new babies

My deer come daily and check for sunflower seeds below my bird feeders. We also get wild turkeys that come and look for the seeds that have fallen out.

Went down to pick the mail up at the mail box today and on the way back up the hill ( about a mile and a half from my place) elk were going across the road. In the 27 years that I have been living up here I've never seen any elk up here. Not that they maybe haven't been here, but I really think that if they were I would of seen them. We use to ride our horses all over up here and never saw any elk or any signs of them. We now do a fair amount of walking around up here and we haven't seen any either. In my opinion I believe the more people are moving out of town and into the country they are taking the animals feeding and hunting grounds and so people are having more encounters with these animals.

We have elk, moose, and cougars now in town from time to time. The real reason we have all the wild life that never used to be here is that very few people go hunting these days, or even have a gun up here in Canada. My hubby used to hunt duck and geese every fall and there used to be a rush to get the best duck hunting spot before the other hunters got there, now no body goes hunting there anymore, very few people hunt compared to 25 years ago. So now the wild animals are making an big comeback! We even have the odd bear and wolf now in the area! It is also more difficult to own a rifle now in Canada. You have to "apply" for a FAC and take courses and stuff. :)

Had a whole herd of deer this morning in the front yard eating my rose hips, crab apples and some garden tomatoes that I gave them from my greenhouse. They had a nice breakfast and then they left a whole bunch of "chocolate trail mix" on the ground for the puppies!

Chocolate trail mix? Now I've heard everything! LOL I always called them Milk Duds, and remember teasing little kids (when I was an adult) that they were candy, "Go ahead, try them!" But, if they HAD, I would have stopped them before they put them in their mouth. Just testing "city" kids to see if they would do it!

We called them trail mix, cause when walking the puppies they always find something to eat on the trail ! I read somewhere that puppies eat the "trail mix" leftover by the deer and other herbavories cause it has already been digested once, so it is easier for them to digest it in there "short carnivore" digestive tract. Apparently there is some nutrional value left in their "leftover trail mix". :)
