New additions to my pond. IMG-20120805-00432.jpg I have had these in the house for the last month and a half and decided today was the day to put them outside.

IMG-20120805-00441.jpg More flowers. :)

Thanks j.w. I have 3 more in the house which are a little smaller then the ones I put in the pond yesterday. I put the ones out in the pond yesterday pretty much because they were picking on my smaller black koi. They were nibbling on its sides so it has a lighter patch on both sides of its body. Tonight I noticed one still in the house is doing the same thing to the black koi. So tomorrow I may be putting it into the pond too. I did notice tonight that the black koi was rubbing on the bottom of the tank. When I change water yesterday I did add stress coat and conditioner and then I added more tonight so I'm hoping it will relieve the poor fish some.

Gosh sounds like chickens, they pick on the ones lower down on the totem pole till they have no feathers left. Wonder why some fish suck on other fish? I tried to look on line to find some info and didn't find anything except somewhere it said some fish could have a sore and other fish are picking at it but sounds like yours are making sores on the ones they suck on. Maybe there is something on the fish that you cannot see?

If the fish is rubbing on the bottom of the tank, I think that's called "flashing" and typically is because they have either a sore or parasites or something like that. Sounds like you did goo in adding the stress coat and conditioner. Hope it gets better! Keep us posted, and I'd love to see a pic of your black koi, especially if you can take it from the side view. :)

Tanks are the least healthy place for koi, why haven't you put them in your pond yet? They would be much fatter and better prepared for winter if you had put them in the pond much sooner! I just discovered your thread, going to go back and read it all later! :) :) :) eating slop and having a coffee at McDonalds, got to run now, have a nice day down there in Montana!

The black koi didn't make it. And yes Colleen I agree with you about the pond being better then a tank (at least in most cases). Since the black koi didn't make it the 3 fish were in quarantine and then I bought a couple more from petco which I lost them cause most of the petco fish die. I still plan on putting them in the pond in the next week or so.
The last couple of weeks we have had some things happen that aren't normal for us. First off we live in the country and my hubby was taking the dogs out for their last potty break for the night and something passed in front of them which he thought was a deer, but after a minute he shined the light up on the hill and it was a mountain lion, needless to say he herded the dog right up the driveway. Then three nights ago two of my dogs got sprayed by a skunk!!!!!l lovely. First time for that. The good thing is the goldfish I have been treating forever it seems for fungus and then ulcers is back in the pond!

So sorry to hear your black koi died. Wondering, was the black one the white one with black scales (in the pic above) or the black one with the orange head? My babies resemble your orange headed koi and I have a white matsuba that I thought was going to stay white, but is almost totally black now! My fault, should have realized the "matsuba" part of the name would mean it would get darker. Can't hardly see it in the pond, whereas Shamu, with his bright white belly, shows up very well.
Glad to hear your nursed a goldfish back to health! WOW about the cougar/mountain lion! I would be scared for sure! No letting dogs outside without human protection. Good thing they didn't take off to run after it. And, skunks are a mess when they let off their "perfume" defenses. Yuck!

Ce no the black koi isn't in that picture. It was pure black.
Wow for the first time I have seen koi at our Walmart! They have had goldfish but never koi. I have pretty much reached my limit on fish so didn't buy any.
