I know this thread is about frogs but tonight I have confirmed that the tail I had reported seeing a couple of days ago was indeed that of a newt. I managed to get this photo late this evening of the greedy blighter after my tadpoles!

Its great to see every one is finally getting some spawn and tadpoles -

After my massive amount of spawn i am now seeing all the tadpoles too!!

This afternoon i attempted to get a video although it was quite bright so the sun reflected on the pond quite badly:

Thats quite good cause mum keeps saying about the look with all of it - however I'm only showing you a small section of my pond -

Here you can see the size of my connected ponds - the area i showed you is just below the purple plant on the left - and infact its the pond over the bridge which has the larger number of tadpoles.

Its like i have a green and black polka dot pond!!!!

I had them clog up my filters and pumps one year because I did not take some of the full grown toads away before they mated and now every year it is the big move to get some of them out of here

Oh wow really.. I'm only a nature pond not fish, is that likely to happen to mine?

Saying that I clogged the pump with the amount of algae.. Think it got air trapped and ended up wih the whole device acting like a float device.. Had to release the air and remove all the algae.. Which probably prevented them from getting into the filter at the time!

OK, those are the weirdest frog tadpoles I have ever seen, Figgy. So, since you spotted the newt, I looked up newt babies, and guess what??? I am wondering if yours are newt taddies! Do you know the type of newt you have in your part of the world? Also, Mr. Pond, yours are very different than frog tadpoles in my neck of the world, too. The pics you posted are outstanding, love the close up details, especially the blue eyes.
Here is a website on newts, and it shows pics of the babies, which I assume are also called tadpoles. It's those multi parted toes/legs that were emerging on the photo above, Figgy, that had me searching for some answers. What do you think?

For a minute CountryEscape you had me wondering too if they were newt tadpoles, especially having googled 'newt tadpoles' myself. However I also googled 'frog tadpoles' and the photo here is very similar to one of mine.

Also, having watched them develop from frogspawn they have to be frog tadpoles.

It was sunny this morning when I checked in on them and most are still closeby where they spawned enjoying the sun. As you can see there are still a good few of them so the newt hasn't scoffed too many of them just yet:

Some have now ventured away from the spawn area and have begun grazing on the algae:

It was those legs that seemed to have 10 toes each emerging from their sides that threw me off, Figgy. I've never seen that with tadpoles in this area. Sounds like you have it figured out. Great! If you wanted lots of frogs, there you go. We will enjoy watching them transform into frogs. Looks like you have hundreds of them, so if the newt eats even half, you will still have plenty. Best part about frogs is they eat lots of the nighttime bugs, mosquitos!
