I have seen signs of frogs around my ponds as well Still need to clean out the small one in the front yard. Woke up to a strange sound, like the fridge gone bad. Turns out the tree frogs are back! I love listening to the peepers but I could really do without these guys, especially at 5am!

So I got home yesterday from Florida and went outside to check on the pond and I have a zillion tadpoles swimming around. I'm getting nervous thinking of all those hoppers in my yard. I may need to try and relocate some of them. I'll get some pictures tonight if I remember but WOW was I surprised!

Lol, you'll be okay the more hoppers the merrier. I can't wait to have tadpoles swimming around but the meantime I have to patiently watch their slow development and hope the snails don't eat them all:

I wonder if they are toad tadpoles. If they are very small, and black or dark brown, bet that's what they are. Around here, toads are the first to lay eggs in my ponds. However, I found a HUGE bullfrog that got behind the rocks on the edge of the pond, probably tried to exit a different way that she came into the crevice, and died. When I pulled out the yucky slimy decaying body, there were eggs in her belly. So, bullfrogs will be reproducing soon, too, I would guess.

Good grief, you sure have lots of frogs/toads doing their thing in your ponds, Addy! It's going to rain here starting ... now ... for the next 3 days, so not sure if I'll get any toad action for a while. Even the bullfrogs don't like the 60 degree weather, they are waiting for the 70's again, I guess.

It is all toads right now, the frogs come later, usually after the toad eggs are tads. They like it warmer. You would think we would be overrun with them, hardly ever see one jumping around. I think they hang out in our woods. I will admit our bug load, crickets, grass hoppers etc are sure a lot less since we put in the pond.

Also we have lots of praying mantis. I watch out for the egg sacks when I am grooming plants, move them to a safe spot.
