Found a very young Leopard Frog in my bog today! It is possible that its the tadpole I put in. I haven't seen the tadpole in a couple weeks, so maybe its the same one. Hopefully it sticks around, and hopefully more come before its time to shut it all down again.

Just went out hoping to get a pic of it. Its so small its hard to find. I was staring nearly right at it without realizing it was there. I really really hope it stays. Northern Leopard Frogs (specifically the green ones) are my favorite frog. Around here, most are brown though.

So it rained a lot last night, and the toads in town took to the streets. Some of them lost their way, because I was at work today (I'm a lifeguard), and I rescued five little amphibians out of the pool. More specifically, three Woodhouse's Toads, which are the most common species of toad around these parts, and two toads of another species that I couldn't identify until after work when I did some research.

After doing some research I think I have determined that these are Plains Spadefoots, which are not actually toads, but very toad-like frogs that only emerge from their burial sites during the event of heavy rain. I had never seen these before and was quite interested in them. You can apparently tell it is a frog because of it's vertical pupils. All true toads have horizontal pupils.

Here are the eyes of the two species compared.

I released them into the park across the street after photographing them :D

I guess the frogs think my pond is just a cheap hotel that has hourly rates. They show up to do their thing, leave me with a bunch of eggs and I never see them again. They just love me and leave me, I feel so violated! :(
