Is this a test? I can tell you that you caught 1/2 dozen large tadpoles in august and they are still tadpoles they have spots on them as well. Did I win? Ha Ha, anyway I think addy has some of those kinds of frogs that stay tadpoles for a couple years. Maybe they were called Leopard Frogs?

Could be Leopard, Green, or Bull.

Considering that you said they are very large, and considering they're still tadpoles, I'd assume Bull Frog, possibly Green Frog.

Can you post a pic of them and tell us how long they are in the picture ? We always love to see pics of frogs, and anyone that has tadpoles in Illinois this time of year is interesting. My guess is going to be bullfrogs, too.

Damn. I found a dead frog today. I was fearing it for months and unfortunately it happened. Now I'm worried about the other three. :frown:

I couldn't tell which one it was, but I'm hoping its not the one in my signature, he/she was my favorite.

Looks like a bullfrog to me, and if the tadpoles are from area, too, they are likely bullfrog taddies as well. I cannot believe that frog is hanging out by your pond with ice, and out of the water!!! Good luck to him.

i'd bet i pull at least 4 dead frogs ou, come springtime. i do every year. yet i release 100s into the wild as tadpoles, and like last fall 30 as tads with the beginnings of their metamorphasis into frogdom!

I finally got a close up photo of the frog i have in my pond.
Its not that clear a photo due to the algae on my pond floor, but was able to confirm that the frog only has one front leg.
When it swam it was very clearly swimming pretty well and straight, but this now explains why it wasnt able to get out of my pond when i saw it for the fist time last week
Is this a leopard frog?
the green spot on him is algae im pretty sure... but any ideas what that white spot could be?

Wow a three legged frog! He will become a celebrity in your pond, or maybe is already. Not sure what kind of frog it is, and the green does look like algae. The white almost looks like a reflection of something instead of a spot on the frog, but maybe you have noticed that spot on him other time. If so, then I would guess something has tried to attack him, got his front leg, and scarred his back in the attempt as well ... perhaps. Hope he makes it and becomes your very own special buddy!
