Pond/Yard is looking really good, Good luck with removing the netting, I removed mine for one day, had some guest coming over and wanted them off to show off the pond, that night Mr. Owl came back, I walked into the back yard and he was sitting on his perch waiting, I went and covered the pond right away, It doesn't appear that he got any fish, all accounted for but sure had me on pins and needles until I got it covered again, As for the wood, I doubt that there will be any problem of anything leaching after it has weathered that long, about the worst case scenerio would be some browning of the water, and with as large a pond as you have and what little wood is actually in the pond, I don't think that will even be noticable.

,I like to wait till about December, just so I know all the herons have left.Last year I had one out there in mid november. So as you can see they are still tucked in the net ,LOL.

ROFLMAO

Well here is a few pics of the pond and surrounding landscaping.
I just love my tall grass and suger maple's.
Hopefully as long as the wind hits just right I won'y have a pile of bald cypress leaves in the pond.
Great thing though the plastic net catches most leaves.

Why are they draining that pond and are there fish in .The herons are really staying around a lot longer so they must know winter is farther away than we think .I have even had a couple of humming birds still around and they say birds staying around like that winter is farther away .I have hardly ever had humming birds this late in the season .So hopefully winter will not be so bad ,but I did hear around 2 ft. of snow for some parts of Colorado .I was also reading on the net about a guy who keeps herons and owls away from his pond by putting up flag poles with large flags that flap in the wind and it scares the birds from his large pond .I have 2 flag poles I made out of electrical conduit I drilled holes in the pipe and threaded wire through the holes to wire the flag too and then I dug a hole and cemented in a bigger pipe than the conduit and that pipe in the ground was 3 ft. down and then just put the conduit with the flag on it in that pipe .This way I could take it down and change the flag out .I wonder if thats why the owl stopped coming around .Never thought of it until I read that story .

I'm not to sure why the Fire dept drained it,maybe to thin out the fish, who knows.
I have a owl that sits up on my house early in the morning, but I keep a radio on [mostly talk shows@ night] to keep the animals away.Seems the talking versus just music works, it is placed under a fake rock.

In this pic I started sitting over here to keep the darn North wind off me and the >>>> :goldfish:

I used plastic floating balls on top of my water to hold my net up before I put in the bridge .I bought the plastic balls at the dollar store and they were similar to the big blow up balls but no air just plastic.I use those giant plastic ornaments they sell at X mas after they clearance them out .Holds the net up really nice .your pond looks good even with the ice .Well fish get bored too LOL

Thanks, well there is a dozen in the pond now.And even w/ the colder temps, they still are huddled together and doing good.I finally had the chance to cut the other pump on this afternoon, since we warmed up to the 40's and it unthawed.
