2022 caught 20 , 2023 #22 - #27: 2024, #28-32 Caught

4 snakes last year, 10 snakes this year I only hear one frog in my entire yard, up in the deck pond.

Your pond is simply THE place to be, apparently, if you're a water snake. Ugg!

Yeah Hubby says anti snake net all the ponds, told him there is no way to do that.

Beyond frustrating, I so want the ponds to be snake free. I have loss a lot of fish. Loss my frogs, too many snakes for ponds my size. Poor fish, frogs, tads

Of the last 4 caught two were huge, 3ish feet , two where around 2 feet and skinnier.

This one looks around the 3 foot range and fat.

No we leave them in the trap until taken and released over 6 miles away. No more fast escaping snakes that bite!

Very bad news @addy1 Looks like you will be catching snakes for quite awhile if this keeps up. So sorry for you and all your fish. No use buying more fish and just seeing them getting eaten. Catch all you can and hope for them to all be gone soon! Then just keep that trap in there and always use it in case newcomers arrive as we know there are more out there just looking for the perfect place to thrive.

Trying to put the snakes in the bucket they escaped, doing nothing but snapping at us and they are darn fast! Hubby kicking the one back to stop it from getting away as I snagged the other

Yes, very creepy eyes...and a flicking tongue ! It does look to be on the larger side, definitely not a baby.

Hubby has seen two snakes and killed one, we have no frogs in the pond currently . We do however have fry - ugh . Saw a few swimming around as we were working to split and replant some of our floating planters that have become huge !

I don't know what else you can do but keep trying to trap them. Do you have an snake specialists in the area ( I realize you're rapidly becoming one - LOL ) that could tell you more about them ?

lol the internet.....................The best way to fight them, remove all vegetation, all rock crevices, and trap.
The up hill wall of my pond (out of water) is nothing but rocks, 4 feet tall, had to dig down to make a level spot for the pond.
It would be a bad look with a kill off of all vegetation and naked ponds.

I talked to the fish hatchery people, they kill every snake they see. It is illegal to kill any snake in MD

"It’s illegal to kill any snake in Maryland without a permit from the Department of Natural Resources. They’re protected by the Nongame and Endangered Species Conservation Act (MD Code, Natural Resources, § 10-2A-01-09)."

Can be fined up to $1000 and a year in jail.
