Is OK, we move that cheap stuff to weed whip, mow etc. Our yorkies are cows they love to chew on grass. We keep their area down to 1.5 inch or so.

I saw the snake near our back field the next day. Hanging out on a fence

Weird snake, it kinda looks like door insulation molding. It's bendy looking :)

Ours was also back today. The first visit it was in the back yard. Today it was coming from the front yard around the side of the house towards the back yard. I fear for poor Mr. Toad ( a plump toad who I think lives under our front porch ) as we haven't seen him in about a week :(

Can you post again where you got your snake trap or the best method that worked? Garter snakes are becoming a problem this year again... I don't care about the little ones, but some of them get huge gorging on baby goldfish or mosquito fish until they are large enough to catch the big goldfish, then they drag the big fish out of the pond but they are too big to swallow so they leave them to die. They even got one this year that I previously rescued by pulling it out of a giant garter snake's mouth a couple of years ago. Unfortunately capturing them involves happening to see unusually large snakes near the pond and being able to step on or net them so they can be stuffed in a can and relocated.

It is a minnow trap bought off Amazon.

I put fake small eggs in it, pieces of chicken, and a few fry that would swim in. one real egg.

Tied off in the deep end. The main entry point for the snakes, off of hang out on rock. opening just below water level.

Then just wait.
