I like that thermometer because the transmitter actually is strong enough to be detected by the receiver indoors.
The ones you see at Home Depot or Rona are too weak.

Wow I should read your posts better. Floating the darn thing is excellent idea.

"I put the receiver in a tupperware container, screwed that to a piece of 2" rigid foam, drilled a hole and dropped the sensor down through that so it would reach the bottom of the pond.
Frozen in place now."

So you got it from that seller site? If so I'm ordering it now. Hope it gets here before the hole closes.

Chinook wind blew in last night, now it is only minus 1 c. No need to plug pond heater in yesterday, cause it warmed up and I seen that Chinook was on it's way. Water had lots of open holes by where the water flows nicely. Fish all look good.... :)

Even with this recent cold period (-24C/-11F), bottom water temp is 5C/41F.
The ice cover is thick enough to walk on.
The pond breathers are still gurgling away (with the plastic plant pots over them for wind protection).
So far I'm very happy with both the pond breathers and the lacrosse remote thermometer.

Freezing cold here right now at -25 c, going down to -34 c tonight!! Pond is froze over pretty good, except for several open breather holes in each pond, thanks to the big 1500 watt Cattle trough heater. The water is still flowing nicely between the three connecting ponds and I can hear it "gurgling" under the ice caps in the spillways. I had been using the 1250 watt green pond heater but switched to the big 1500 watt early this morning cause the pond breather holes were too small for my liking...

So I brought out the big 1500 watt heater at 5am this fridget morning, and placed it on the ice, and it made a Evil HiSS as it steamed a hole quickly open in the thick ice.

Not quite as cold here, only -12 C (10 F) at night, but the pond finally froze over completely a day or so ago.

I like comparing the winter desolation to the summer plant life.

With the pond frozen over I'm running water circulating under the ice from my bottom drain - to the settling tank in the insulated pump room - through a pre-filter - and back to the pond again through the skimmer line. The skimmer has been removed. The open indoor settling tank functions as my hole in the ice. So the only electricity I use is the pump (160 watts).
The under water probe quit working on my thermometer, so I don't know what the water temp is.
