I thought things were bad down here Mitch, I see you have full blown winter going on up there in the Rockies! At least you have a beautiful view up there and lots of very fresh air too! :)
That's why we moved here, Colleen. The wind comes mainly from the west and there is easily a couple hundred miles of forest for the wind to blow over before it reaches us. :)
(actually, we were looking for just a cabin to buy along with our home in the city but they were just too darn expensive. We sold the whole kit and kabootle and moved instead..lol)

-17C/ 1F here this morning. The bottom pond temp has been a pretty steady 42 F. (5 foot depth) since the ice covered the whole pond 3 weeks ago.
The pond breathers are both going stong, so I'm pretty happy with them so far.

Man you are in the thick of winter already aren't you Mitch. I've still got the waterfall running here, and although we've had some frost and even a couple inches of snow that stayed on the ground for a couple days, I haven't had any ice on the pond yet, not even along the shore line. Still, I knows it's coming, I plan to shut down the waterfall pretty soon.

Low pressure systems from the artic sure do seem to hug the foothills on their way down dowth.
You live in a beautiful part of BC. Love travelling through that area.

Mitch what thermometer are you using for the deep water reads? I'm not using one this winter.

This one. http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/9029/

I put the receiver in a tupperware container, screwed that to a piece of 2" rigid foam, drilled a hole and dropped the sensor down through that so it would reach the bottom of the pond.
Frozen in place now.
