So... an anonymous friend spent some big bucks and bought me a pond liner. No info in the box about who paid for it, the cost, just a ups delivery of a 30x30 liner with a spare bit of tape, their typical flyers, and two coozies to keep drinks cool. Heavy duty, stiff btl liner. It’s currently resting on the trunk of my car since dad wouldn’t leave it alone, and I’ve got to go fish out a small branch and some other debris wind and dogs put in the pond hole. Temps would be good today to have laid it out but I spent half the day taking mom to her dr appointment , then talking with the neighbor. Her husband was fighting Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and just passed away from covid. But apparently she’s had dogs showing up at her place picking on her dog, and if I find out it’s any of mine, they’ll be put down. I can’t have dogs picking on other dogs. Fighting the coyotes is one thing, other dogs are no threat to us. That house is beyond where they should reasonably be expected to go, and is closer to town, so it could be dogs from town, but I used the purple wound coat on their tails to mark them so we will know if it is any of them.
Possibly rain and more cool almost freezing temps expected the rest of this week. It was low 70s today, we can expect high of 50s tomorrow, 43 the next day, then 50-60s the rest of the week. I’m hoping to be able to lay out the liner and give it a little time to settle so I can see where to fold it, but need 70+ temps to make it more pliable.

Just saw the weather report, looks like it will be a full week and change before we see good temps. For those of you up in the north east coast, like Maine, it looked like it was expected to go spin across you, so expect storms. If I saw that weather pattern here, I’d expect tornado, if off the coast I’d say hurricane. But no other warm days over low 60s for a full week.

The weather you guys just had we consider annoying we actually did get the same up until today we had about 2" of snow that got soaked in rain and the freezing rain turning everything to a block of ice. Just another day in the north east. the difference is are water lines are not laying on the ground or just barely burred and we know what to expect and how to avoid the issues. I would always chuckle when i would head south in the winter 75 degrees out and the sun is shinning , water temps are in the low 70's and i'm going for a swim. I'd always see people on the shore line in down parkas and sweaters taking pics of the dumb tourist with the lake to himself. Priceless. water temps in new england never reach 70 in the summer let alone in the winter

Ok @JamieB Give you got to know who sent it to you! a 30x30 liner does not get there by itself.
While she most definitely knows the person, she may never know for sure. I have done similar too many times knowing there pride would never except such a gift and while it's only a couple hundred buck It can be out of reach at that time for them. As they say it's better to give then it is to receive. Well knowing how that couple hundred bucks made Jamie I'm sure was a gift far better to them then any material gift for them selves could be.... ok unless it's a new Harley. Do them proud jamie make the best pond you can make

I plan to make my pond as nice as I can. First year just plants and what ever nature wants to add, and work on fencing, screening, and building a good bog. Then I’m going to imitate Addy1 and go for shubinkin on my second year, unless I have to do food type fish:( fish are friends, not food, to me. I’d prefer to give it a full year of no fish, just dirty aquarium water to feed bacteria. Then add just a few nice shubinkin. I’m afraid my water lillies all died, I might have one or two in the mini pond, but if so, they aren’t getting what they needed to grow. I know 60% surface cover is “ ideal”, but I’m thinking I will set it up so there’s as many lillies as the pond can accommodate. The only thing stopping me from working on the pond now is weather and a very good book series I found for free online. The book keeps my mind busy so I don’t get impatient on the pond. Best to wait and do it right.
