No hummers been spotted here yet this year. Usually, once you have a feeder, the following years they will buzz around you or come to your window as if to say, "I'm baaaaack, feed me, would you?" I've heard many many people say the hummers did that to them, too. I need to get my feeder cleaned out and ready.
I did see a damsel fly again today. It came to sit by me while I was working on stripping my porch swing (that project was a failure ...) and even though my camera was close, it was not close enough, and he buzzed away before I could grab it.
Same for a tiny baby snake that I saw when I turned over an edge stone on the goldfish pond. He looked at me and I thought of the camera, but knew he would not stay put long enough. He boogied into the pond pronto. Pretty sure it was a garter snake. I thought they were strictly land snakes, but now that I know they will go into water, I won't worry much about him being in there. My fish are too big for him, at least the size he is now!
Beautiful weekend. 70's, sunny, breezy (maybe too breezy, but I'll take the temps). Got tons done - mowed, ran gutter drain under paver sidewalk and then covered the trench; sprayed for weeds and the driveway rock areas, moved 4 of the 6 trees I bought an planted a month ago (note to self: measure the mower BEFORE planting trees ....) and then brought my big potted plants out of the spare bedroom back to the back deck.
