Well at least we can say they are smarter than us .I am still a sucker for the neighbors that need help but they never seem to offer me any .I am still playing catch up since hubby's 2 hospital stays .Warning with that just because your blood pressure is ok does not mean your hemoglobin is ok .Most people do not survive if the hemoglobin gets below 6 for to long and that it should be around 13 and tests for it at labcorp are only 102 dollars and most insurance covers the whole test .It test for cholesterol also with that test .It covers 30 factors in your blood .Test that should have been recommended by his doctor but was overlooked .Hubbies hemoglobin was 5.6 and it took 4 pints of blood just to bring it up to 9 and they did not find the cause of his internal bleeding with the first endoscopy it took the second time in the hospital and a second endoscopy to find the erosion going into the small intestine and hopefully that has been fixed

JW, now you have me wondering. I have both of my hoses laying out on the yard, and we got down to 25 and 29 last week a couple of nights. Both have shut offs on the ends, although the water source was shut off. I'm sure there will be no damage, but maybe I have better hoses than what you're talking about. I hate the cheap hoses that won't coil up. All of mine are the type that even if they are cold, they will coil up easily.
Got up to 75 here today, cloudy and humid as all get out. Had AC on at work, just seemed "wet". 100% chance of rain tonight and tomorrow. I've gotten .8" so far, and loving every minute of this wet weather. Weekend is promised to be beautiful and sunny, so I'll take the wet cloudy days during the week. Planning to do all sorts of winterizing around the ponds this weekend, getting plants cut off that have wilted in the frosts we had last week, and moving bulbs inside for drying out for the winter. Must remember to get a bale of peat moss tomorrow .... must remember ... remember ... now, what was I trying to remember???? Oh, yeah, peat moss!
Oh, and Lou, I loved your squirrel story. It is fun to watch them. I enjoyed seeing lots of pretty birds - blue jays, cardinals, juncos, nuthatches, black capped chickadees, flickers ... at my sister's house last weekend. They live in a subdivision, large lots (half to full acre) with tons of mature trees. Squirrels, too. And she was feeding whole peanuts in the shell. Man did the black birds love them, and the squirrels and blue jays. I sure do miss all the pretty birds, as don't have hardly any out here. In fact, the birds I do have rarely eat the food I put in the feeders. Maybe this winter there will be more ...

65 and thunderstorms here today. We got 1 1/2 inches of rain. Pond is full. Back to cooler temps tomorrow. Just this one day in the 60s.

Pond is netted but leaves are just starting to fall. I cut my lilies back last weekend. All but a few stems still green. Stock tank filter is still running. Will prob drain and rinse everything out of that this weekend. I don't want to be doing that when it gets even colder. Water temp couple days ago was about 43 degrees. I think running the falls is cooling my water a little more than if I wasn't.

Currently 37F outside. I haven't run my waterfall since last weekend cause of the cold temps outside. This weekend I will clean out the waterfall, the bottom of the pond and trim the water Lillie's. Then it's goodbye to my fish for at least the next five to six months :(.

I am tired of old Man winter, couldn't he just go on vacation or something!!
Just woke up and had a night mare, then the button on the alarm clock got stuck!! What a spooky dream too, I dreamt about a flood coming, work, and spooks all mixed into one dream! At least the weather should be nice for Halloween, should be about 50 for a day time high today!

One thing I like about winter is that it turns the outside deck into an extended fridge/freezer.
I can unload all the food to some outside shelves and defrost the inside freezers.
When I cook soups and stews, the excess gets packaged up and put on the deck. I don't need to worry about freezer space. :)

Well, that's being positive attitude minded, Mitch! Now, I have to wonder if you never have any raccoons come onto your deck to check out your excess soup supplies?! :blueflower: My dogs would take to snooping into the containers as well.

No raccoons here, CE.
- and I don't let the dogs out. They're inside all the time, except for a doggie door that leads to a 20 X 20 fenced in gravel area.
Mice are active on the deck, but they can't get up on the shelves. ;)

CE I did not make myself clear on that last post about the freezing. It was not the hose that busted, it was the cheap plastic nozzle I left attached to the hose that cracked. When I stuck that nozzle on the end of an unfrozen hose and turned on the water the thing blew water out of every crack and I dropped it fast but got soaked anyways!

Raining here right now but looks like it is clearing and might be dry for tonights one lone trick or treater that comes each year. He is not fat and I do not give out notes saying so to them that are and choose to eat my goodies. I could tho expect to get some from them to me if I'm not careful w/ my grazing

Yeah, saw that "note" the lady was going to give out to fat kids. What a joke. That's the type of stuff that people repost on FB, and they get into big arguments in families and with friends. I agree, kids should not be allowed to just gorge themselves on chocolate, but hey, it's Halloween, and it's one day a freaking year for goodness sake! I know I used to have T or T candy for a month, I'd savor it, eating only a couple of pieces a day. When my kids were little, we lived in the country, could not expect them to walk from house to house ... too far in between. So, I drove them to their grandparent's house, neighbors, and a few others. That was a total of MAYBE 10 houses. They came home with a full and I mean FULL plastic grocery size bag of candy each! When you only get a few kids, you give them lots. I thought my neighbor was going to come here, so I stopped and got 2 different type of mini candy bars. No one showed up. I don't blame them, though, it's pouring out there right now. Been raining all afternoon and evening. It would be miserable to be a trick or treater this evening. I'm hoping the neighbor kids will maybe dress up again tomorrow night and come get some or most of this candy!!! Otherwise, it's going into the freezer, in a freezer bag, and I'll save it for another time I have company. I sure don't need it!

Well, we got a grand total of 12 trick-or-treaters! 2 grand-kids, the 2 girls next door, and 8 un-identified monsters. And that in SPITE of the rain! Last year it was dry and warm, and we only got 8 kids! Did I mention we're in a small hamlet in the middle of no-where?
