Ended up with 12" of heavy wet snow. Down to 22°f so far, supposed to drop to 15°.
What a bunch of , imho, idiots, go driving when all they did was warn you to stay off the road. Some people have been stuck on I95 for 15 hours so far. Virginia area. Running out of gas, other routes being totally stopped due to bail out traffic that can go no where.

Down where it snowed they were getting 1 to 2 inches a hour. We left the boat early, saw snow was coming, our drive home was a bit of rain, ow drive able roads. If we had stayed we would still be there. Our rule: roads are white we go no where, now we are retired, but they also shut down a lot, fed gov etc. Stay home!

Plows can't plow, slush turned to solid ice with or overnight temps. Per the "news" they did not start plowing soon enough.

IF they absolutely had to drive I feel for them.

Our roads are white out here, but it is all salt.

around here, 12" would cause some issue but we wouldn't have nearly that much issue. Still, I echo your thoughts; why drive anywhere and take a chance? Used to be they didn't even say 'stay home', but now, we're all a bunch of wimps I guess and it's the first thing they do. I ALWAYS tell my wife though; CAREFUL that first snow drive as it takes us one time to 'remember' how to drive in it. After that, pretty much only single driver issues on occasion.

Hubby stayed at work last night. Today is his last day of work for a week. It was exactly 1 year ago yesterday since he was in an accident on his way home so not taking any chances! Now i just need to get a place cleared out for him to park his car tonight.

@brokensword His name is Clyde..................not Alfie and he can swim.

All our snow is gone now and sun is out and temps are climbing into the 30's now. Hope all you guys back there getting the big hit play it safe and just stay put till all settles. Not worth risking life and limb out there.

He has a spot to park at the top of the driveway when he gets home around 9pm. He was actually watching me clear the driveway on the security camera system while he was at work! Think I'm changing the password, not 1st time He's said something about me working outside.

This always happens! Mother nature seems to know when he is working! He has never been home when we have had flooding around ponds and in basement.

I lived in the desert for YEARS! I still have to drive in snow even with being here since 2008. I refuse to go anywhere, nothing is that important. The drivers suck around here, the traffic sucks. One storm, 2 inches of snow, the drivers on 270 were stuck for , if I recall right, 7-8 hours. The fed, county etc workers all let go at the same time since snow was coming = grid lock = slippery roads = a nightmare.

Some of the people stuck on I95 were there over 24 hours. It is clear now, but now the side roads are jammed up with people that did get off then got stuck or ran out of gas there.

yeah, I hear ya; I've been saying for years (and please excuse this; not aimed at present company, but you know who you are!) that people are getting more and more stupid. Yeah, harsh but reality, over time. We are SUCH WIMPS compared to what our forefathers went through. Like we get all these conveniences and forget how to do stuff ourselves. And I'm speaking as a whole, our culture in general. There's plenty of peeps still in the loop but sooooo many that are just dropping out and not even caring/understanding they are. For instance, in my dad's day, MOST fixed the car at least peripherally if not actually but now? Hard to find anyone who works on their car. I BUILT my own house JUST because I knew my dad had done the same. And I didn't get my construction loan at the time SIMPLY because people like me were already becoming dinosaurs and the local gov'mt didn't know how to deal with us peeps. Who does that? Now? I dare ya to name KNOWING one person who has done (young peeps, not old like me) who has done this or is thinking about it. Sure, money comes into play but just the knowledge you need and some skills appropriate is lacking. I for one refuse to make my house a 'smart' house; sheesh, what the hell then am I for??? Don't want my house smarter than me, ah, nuh uh.

Guess I'm of the school of thought that we should all know stuff, have/train our skills and be less dependent on the gov or others for our livelihood. But times change, and I don't see it as better.

(steppin' offn the pedestal now; others can take the mic!)

my first car was a datsun station wagon. I took a car fix it course in college and used to do the timing, set the points etc. Cars now a day are too complex to mess with.

there's that, true, but how many do you know that change their own oil? Not too hard but it means you actually have to crawl under the car...do they have a smart version of an oil filter?

I used to and we have changed our own a few times. I have on the tractor and mower. But prefer to get it done, now, hands need easy work anymore.

sure, I'm talking about younger folks, you know, the ones who have not put in their time yet. Peeps like you and me have put in our time, totally understandable. I COULD do more on my car but I figured I do so much already myself, I'd leave the crawling under the car stuff to others, despite the cost. And I can still remember trying to change out a muffler pipe system on my old camaro I showed you, in the middle of winter without a lift. Just two car ramps. Can you say FREEZING HANDS??? That was nigh on 45 years ago and I STILL remember!
