-50°F wind chills tomorrow and Thursday morning. Tomorrow's high will be around -13°F. As you could imagine, every school in the area is closed tomorrow, some businesses are closed. In my opinion, they should all be closed. Local news says 1996 was the last time we've seen something as cold as what's coming over the next 24 to 48 hours.

8 f this am, heading to 3 f tonight.
My plane is still flying, but a snow blast is hitting the airport right when I am supposed to take off. Heavy blowing snow as the arctic front makes its way into our area.

-23 right now with a wind chill of -49. By Saturday, it is supposed to be close to 40 degrees. Mother nature is having some serious mood swings.

To you folks that are experiencing extreme cold temperatures, I have some tips that will be hopefully useful
:Keep your outdoor activities to a minimum
If your vehicle is kept outdoors, plug in the block heater (if it has one)
If your house has plumbing that is close to an outdoor wall, keep cabinet doors open and the taps on a constant slow trickle in order to prevent water line freezing
Keep pets indoors
Watch your indoor furnace for signs of component failure. Post questions if you're not sure what to look for

The coldest I've measured here is -40 with a -52 windchill.
It didn't last long, but I always think about how our pioneers managed in this kind of weather.
I guess that's why people didn't live much past 40 years old back then.

I went out to check on my pond breather, and I was also curious what -50° wind chills felt like. It really feels about the exact same as 0°F, other than the damage it can do in a very short amount of time.
I do feel bad for wildlife, though. Even though they can handle colder temperatures, this is going to take a toll on them.

Be safe addy and hope the flight goes well .It got down to 17 degrees and windy but sunny out now and supposed to get up to 47 degrees today .Mood swings is too light a phrase she has gone bat out crazy weather channel now changed again and only 35 tomorrow and then by next week it says 60's
