Beautiful pic - the first glimpse of a midwestern winter to come.Well, here we go again. No matter how many winters I've been through, it still stings just as bad when it returns.

Looks great, Mike! I’m glad your ponds are refreshed before the freeze and I’m sure your trout appeciate the influx of fresh oxygenated water. We have had a moderate to severe drought in my county this year. The rains finally came and the springs filled up my pond yesterday. Now the overflow is filling up the second pond. I was getting concerned that the ponds would freeze over before filling. Then, the ice would rise up and rip the drain pipes off.

Yes, he does. Beautiful brook trout (char), specifically. We have a couple rainbow trout, too. They’re camera shy, though. After years of trying, I only have a handful of grainy photos as proof. They’re the Bigfoot of pond fish...You have trout in them thar ponds???

And it's getting chillier!Mine is chilly and seriously informal. We've had nights in the low to mid teens, so it's starting freeze up for the winter. I'll have to shut off the pump soon, as the stream tends to form ice dams and empty the pond, making an icy mess of the surrounding terrain.
