Are they planted in soil with gravel on top or in pea gravel alone? I have two in all pea gravel and they do pretty well. They grow much faster here on sunny days. You must be having some warm weather finally after your cold midwest winter.

Soil topped with pea gravel. We've been in the 70s/80s now for a couple of weeks. Looks like we've made it to summer, though its a shame Spring never happened!

My former mystery plant has opened and been positively ID'd as a Blue Flag Iris!
Of the three types of Irises I have, this one is the coolest!

yes, all pumps have the pre-filters, three pumps and three doubled pre filters, and boy do I need them right now, cleaning them regular right now cause all kinds of leaf litter falling into ponds and nets get very full fast! Soon all that should be gone and pond will be back to normal. Same thing every year, can't have the trees without the leaf litter once in a while!

Thanks Colleen. I may get another pump and put another doubled prefilter on it. My pond is abt 2400 gals and I notice the one end by the falls might need some more cleaning power there.

it is good to move the water around all over the pond, then it gets rid of more waste quicker that way. I just cleaned out the little old skimmer that I hooked up to keep the surface of the bottom pond clear. You can see the round black skimmer between the two flowering plants in the bottom pond, Soon the trees will stop dropping things in my pond and then it will all be easy peasy for the rest of the summer, cause I won't have to constantly clean filters....

Now that's some nice clear water and your plants are taking off JB. I can see your fish enjoying themselves in there. Ok so that Horsetail looks way different then the kind I see on the roads here. Pretty Iris in bloom. Your bog is doing great too and nice and clean looking.

thanks.

after the horsetail conversation, I ended up looking it up and it seems we have up to 10 different kinds of Horsetail/Scouring Rushes here in Wisconsin alone!

Yes I noticed looking online that there are many different kinds of the plant. Just keep and eye on it and make sure it's not jumping out of the pond. Some spread by rhizomes but can also spread by seeds. The ones I read about all said they can become aggressive but if you know that you can keep it under control. It is a cool looking plant :)

Here's my pond today. I always think to myself "I'm going to skip a few days of sharing my pond" and then I get outside and think "I have to take a photo!"

A few days ago I moved my day lilies up to the edge of the pond and it was a good idea. I really like the look of it. I'm hoping later this year I can get more edge plants, but for now my focus is on getting the waterfall flagstone

Wow you are going to have a really nice pond JB, when all those lily's you planted start flowering! I really do not have enough sun for water Lilly's but I try anyway and get a couple flowers. I need to transplant my Lilly's too, and your bog looks REALLY REALLY nice!!!!!

How come I am the only one that talks on my video's? You guys must be all shy! :phantom:
