@addy1 I just looked at your ponds live on the feed and noticed the reflection of a heron flying over. Glad you have that net! Everything looks so pretty and peaceful.
Been too busy to look, thanks! I am glad I leave it netted year round.

Well, I've been avoiding this for years, but I just can't do the Autumn leaf cleanout anymore. I've spent countless hours each year trying to clean out thousands and thousands of leaves before the pond freezes over, but this year, the pond has been netted. Hopefully none of my frogs get tangled up in it. I gave them enough room around the edges to jump up on the rocks if they want, as well as a few escape gaps. I might keep it up through winter, but as long as it's covered during our big leaf drop, I'll be happy. The leaves on the maples along my driveway are getting ready to fall, and those are the ones that fill the pond on a windy day.

Will make it a lot easier for ya @JBtheExplorer
You can do a frog check each day to make sure none are trapped since you are saving so much time not having to scoop out leaves

I leave the wide weave net on year round due to herons, when it snows it pulls the net down. That fine weave net will be pulled down and sunk under water by snow, unless you have a ice layer first. Then it will freeze in the ice and snow mix.

You would think the snow would go through but nope, it sticks and sinks it.

Good to know. I was thinking of going to a wider weave net because the same thing happens to my net. Guess I don't need to try it now. Thanks!

What a gorgeous fall we've had here in Northern IL. It's still supposed to be above 60 degrees F every day this week. The fish are still eating like it's mid-July. We still haven't had a hard freeze... very, very unusual!

@tbendl - you can increase the water flow in your stream with a few well placed rocks. Squeeze the water in a bit and make it force it's way past and voila! Better water flow!

Had a Bullfrog sitting on top of the net this morning. Must've went out hunting last night and couldn't figure out how to get back into the pond. I grabbed it and put it back in. I'll definitely have to do frog checks every day. Luckily the temps were fairly warm overnight.

It pulls it down, but since I have it 3 feet over the water very little of it sinks enough to get trapped in the ice. It all depends on if I have it pulled tight enough. And it depends on if it is a wet snow.
I would use nothing else, since it does not trap any of the critters that visit the pond.
