I only spent about 1/2 hour in my blind (pvc frame with camo burlap) this morning, the birds were really enjoying the stream area! I saw about 10+ different types in that short time, yellow & yellow-rumped warblers, gold-crowned sparrow, robins, white-breasted nuthatch, pine siskin, doves, gold finch, house finch and several unidentified ones. A couple days ago a black-chinned hummingbird visited. This place is getting crowded!

The hummer and nuthatch are in small trees on the edge of the bog. We also get a whole covey of quail quite often, as many as 30 are here some days.

My wife and I are really enjoying all the bird life the pond/stream system attracts, what a great photo backdrop is turn out to be!

Nice shots guys... I think it's important to be able to see the pond from inside, especially in the winter months when its to cold to go outside first thing in the morning. My L.E.D pond light quit last week, now all I see is a black hole at night.

I shine lights down on my pond rather than having lights glare up into my eyes .Plus my hubby had 2 eye surgeries after his heart attack and he can't take the up lights my friends have .I prefer the down lights they are cheaper and easy to replace .I buy the spotlight ones after christmas .Plus big advantage is you can see the whole outside of the pond in case there are predators .Plus it helps me see the pond on the cameras in the house

I took the shade sail down last week as the water temps are holding steady just below 85. I was a little afraid that would result in some suspended algae, but hobbled out there a few minutes ago to feed and the pond is crystal clear! There is a little bit of string algae in a few spots, but no over growths that I am used to seeing in the fall. I usually have to wait for "winter" temps before I see the water as clear as it was. Nice!

I'll try, but I can never get past the "glare" on the water. Someone once suggested using a polarized lens from a pair of sun glasses to shoot through. I might try that, if I can manipulate the iPhone, shutter "button," and glasses at the same time.

@Mmathis I too have trouble w/the glare and good to hear that idea on the polarized lens. Are all sun glass lenses polarized or does it have to say it somewhere on the glasses?

One trick you can try in order to determine if your sunglasses are polarized is to hold them up to your computer screen and rotate the glasses. At some point during the rotation, you won't be able to see the screen because a lot of computer screens are polarized as well.
Here's a video to show what I'm talking about:

Oh, good idea! Why didn't I think of that?
