Wow Maria, that does look like califlower! My fish's growth doesn't look like that, it's more raw looking and not pillowly like that. It's not red though and not a hole appearance like an ulcer, even though I called it that. This fish seems very healthy. It's swims around more than the others right now, especially since the waters getting colder and they're less active. It's eating well also.

Dave 54, just curious what is the issue with Melafix? I have read that before. I did start to treat the pond with Melafix and Pimafix at the same time and then read that about Melafix and then stopped. So now I am feeding them with Medi-Koi. Only problem with is that it's getting colder and they're not eating as much. This fish eats the best and is the only one who will eat from my hand. Needless to say I will be really sad if he doesn't make it. As far as going to the fish dealer, they are the ones who said Melafix and Pimafix together. I wouldn't really call them a fish dealer, they're more of a pond design place. They do have alot of koi and seem pretty knowledgeable about them though.

What would you recommend that I use to treat the pond? And how late in season can I do this? I'm in Upstate NY, gets pretty cold early here.

Though a natural cure we found melafix just wasnt up to the job basically it was taking far to long effecting a cure it was messy in that it created lots of foam on the surface and you couldnt see the koi through it.
Dont get me wrong I would love to use less in the way of chemicals which is why when we had a problem with an ulcer in the change over from the tank to the pond we bought koi Clear Gel an ozonated veggitable based treatment which when it comes to ulcers quite simply eats them for breakfast and spits out the rest ( it is that good ) its only draw back is when not in use it hs to be kept in the fridge :-

If you can get this in the states I recomend that you buy it its a good treatment to have on your side.
Can you please show us a photo of the problem your koi has ?

I have one like that but it's on a goldfish. Has been like that for years. I just leave it be as it seems to be ok otherwise.
