Funny, Ryan, about the swelling on the side of your head. I don't have to ask anyone, can just do it if the mood hits me. However, I have to think about my yard, and how much I want to take care of. Another pond probably not in the near future, although I do want to dig out an area for the lotus, if they decide to grow for me this year. First will put them in pots, and if they live through the summer, then I'll think about a permanent home for them in the ground.

Hmm ... Birdman, you must be reading my thread. It's a long one, we banter on here often. Not sure what you read that you posted that, maybe something in the very beginning stages of this pond. I did use old carpeting for under the liner, plus an underlayment, which said it would keep nails and roots from protruding through the liner. Not sure it really works, but it was worth the extra insurance to put it under the liner. So, I have carpet, then underlayment, then liner. Very glad I put in the shelf and extra steps so I can get in and out for cleaning and pruning plants!

My hibiscus are just sprouting from the ground that i planted last year and will cut last years stems off in April after I am sure no frost is possible .I leave the stalks up to protect the new growth from the deer nibbling on them also .Funny story I was loading the abf truck and a deer came up on my hill where they are planted and then watched what I was doing and then just walked or well tripped down the hill as I watched .Wish I had my camera .They are pink hibiscus with the deeper color center ce .

Gosh sissy I thought Hibiscus all bloomed later on in the season. Are those just early bloomers or do all Hibiscus bloom there earlier than here? We don't get blooms till Summer time. Lovely flowers there sissy!

Yes very nice flowers Sissy! CE, I have old rugs and pieces of cardboard and extra plastic under my liner too, can't hurt to have extra protection from tree roots and stuff. Although I would be willing to bet that some of the big trees may have a "tap" root to one if the ponds, cause some times in the early spring water seems to disappear ..... maybe it is just my imagination!

They start blooming in early spring and bloom even after a frost in the fall here and that is not until November .This king I bought are ever bloomers and grow like weeds .I bought one plant and now have 12 and all my neighbors have tons of them now because i gave them seeds and I don't fussy over them except for fertilizer once in awhile .The flowers get bigger every year .In the fall I just throw some mulch over the bottom but it does not get that cold here .We sometimes get down to 25 degrees but not much less .I have leaves and blossom on my trees already and sprayed all my fruit trees and added fertilizer spikes to there root system .The flowers on them are supposed to get as big as dinner plate size .I want yellow ones next .

So, are those blooms this year, Sissy? I thought maybe it was a picture form last year. Yes, I have 5 little plants that sprouted out of the 7 I planted, so that's pretty good. Just repotted them. Hoping they will be big enough to plant outside much later, when all frost is past and ground is much warmer. They will go on the west side of my house, in front of my living room windows, against the house. It will shelter them from so much wind, but I'll have to water them there, too. Winds will also water them as when it rains, it typically is blowing from the west as well. It's wet in that front bed, because of the ground that was used to backfill, but I've added lots of composted manure to the mix, too. Thanks for the seeds, BTW!!! The seeds I sent to you, I also put in starter pots and not one of them has sprouted yet. I'm wondering what I did wrong! Or, maybe they take 30 days to sprout, or maybe they KNOW it's not spring yet, and just have refused to sprout? Really confused. I'd like to know if you were able to start any of those seeds that I sent to you.

I have one in the basement and just moved it to under the front porch on the slab and added that bloom booster to it for a month .I buy the bloom booster at lowes and it is in a plastic bottle and is granular and the bees are out and figure give them something to eat .I added the bloom booster to all my flowers to get them to bloom more and bigger and even got flowers on my christmas cactus again .That one is from last year sorry .The ones I grew in the basement have not opened yet and are gifts .I grew 6 of them over the winter and 2 are going to my friends that just moved here and one is going to my neighbors little girl to plant herself .Get the little gardener out of her she is 4 now .Then 2 of them go to the local church a friend of mine is the pastor and the church was just built and he asked every one to help with the property by donating a plant to the church to be planted in the gardens .I like his idea as it will make the church a more personal place .It is just a small church they built .

Went walking in the woods with my friend today, admiring her woodland bulbs that have begun to bloom! What a beautiful day it was, 53 and sunny, not much wind. Then I asked if I could collect some rocks at the road bridge that goes over the creek on her property. She even offered to come and help tote the rocks up the embankment. So, we were a team, I chose and collected, half filled a 3.5 gal bucket, then walked them to the top of the embankment (about 8' high) and she toted them to my truck and dumped them in the bed! Here is the result of our hard work:

The bucket had smaller stones that I will place in between the larger rocks. And, not positive, but we both think this looks like a piece of petrified wood. What do you think?

Then, since I was in my truck, I stopped and got 20 more ceramic blocks from the neighbor's garage that blew down in a storm 2 years ago. They said I could have as many as I wanted. There are enough in that ditch to build a 2 car garage almost! I am going to use them for foundation when I build a bridge over the stream ... after I change the stream this spring! The blocks are cream, light mint green, and light tan. Very pretty, but best part is they are FREE.
