If you have cats the best is a small dog .My first chi. was raised with 2 cats and a ferret and they would raise hell running through the house playing .But they were so much fun to watch ..It would sound like 10 big dogs running and you would see them and company would laugh .They were all terrors .

I did have a house dog years ago. He was an american eskimo. Medium sized dog. Broke my heart when he died.
The only cat we have Sissy is a barn cat that has been living in the heated garage with our Australian Shepard. Both are quite old.
He was getting beat up out in the barn by a stray tom cat plus it has been so darn cold. Dont have the heart to leave him out in the cold.
Husband has been tolerating it quite well. As he is not a big fan of cats. Likes them outdoors to catch mice only. :) .
It is really time for us to put our pour old Aussie out of her misery. She is old and has some health issues. It is just so hard to make that decision. :(

I know what you mean, Haver! I am up to 5 dogs now, one house cat (was my daughter's, but she moved to UT and said the drive would be too hard on the cat .... ), 3 barn cats and 2 horses/1 mule. The dogs will all be outside during the spring-fall seasons, but once it gets really cold, I just hate for them to be outside freezing. After it gets over 30 during the day, and 20's at night, the two bigger dogs stay outside day and night. The Bostons are not as hearty, just not be kept outside, so they have to be more temperature control. The kennel will be somewhat heated by this summer, so I can leave them out for more of the year.
OH, I did a video this morning. Will check to see if it turned out ok, then see if I can post it. :)

Here they are getting stricter about dogs out side .They have to have good shelter and fresh unfrozen water .To many complaints about dogs these days with no dog houses and no warm bedding and no water so now first offense is 50 dollars plus court cost and second is determined by the judge on the recommendation of animal control and pics taken .I never left my pets live outside they were spoiled rotten .Owner who had king Arthur used to leave him out in 1 of those plastic igloos with no bedding and feed him grits and half the time he did not have water .I read the full report on his neglect and now he is a stake and potato's dog ,just let the chi's eat the potato's .:)He is in doggie heaven living here and even has a special dog bed just for him but in hubby's den it is who ever gets there first .The king has been dethroned

My bigger dog Bear would just love for me to leave him out on warmer nights, cause his hair is thicker, but then he would bark all night and drive the neighbors mad. Poppy and Bear have their choice of couch and there is nice couch in front porch that they lay on, and Poppy slept in bed with me for years but bed is too high up and she is getting old and fat so it is harder for her to get up. Poppy prefers the couch these days.

Awe! We spoil our little puppies! I love to sleep with little Rio too cause she gently snores my ears and she is just so cute, I have a real fur baby that loves me!

CE I can't wait to see your ponds in summer, it looks way better on videos!

Me, too. We all should do summer videos. All of you will have tons of birds singing included in your vidoes in summer. Addy will have bees buzzing around. And although I only have sparrows and starlings/blackbirds, I have frogs! :)

One thing I have noticed, we have way more song birds up here than in florida. I miss all the singing, even in the winter.

Last weekend, the group of guys came with about 4 pickup trucks, dogs and guns to hunt coyotes and fox (since the 2 mile or mile and a half blocks where I live are farmed fields, very flat, east to spot them ...). My dogs were barking, so I looked out and saw one of the trucks a mile across the field, driving along, with what I thought was a black dog running in the field parallel to the truck. Got out my trust binoculars, and I'm pretty sure it was a black fox! Never saw a black fox, so not positive, but that's what it looked like. Another truck zoomed ahead, assuming to cut him off before he crossed the road to head to the woods on the other side. They couldn't shoot at him, since they were in line of a house ahead of them. Figuring that fox knew exactly what he was doing! I hope the fox made it ...

Awe! Poor Fox, I thought they were endangered or something. Now Coyotes on the other hand can be very mean and horrible to other peoples pets and have cost me lots of vet bills when they attacked my poor Poppy, and so I feel no remorse in seeing them gone!
