Happy New Year everyone! Watching the Rose parade while doing some un-decorating and there was a float that had a black bear. The covering was dried water hyacinth roots! I didn't realize that they look like bear fur but mine never get long cause they taste too good to the koi!

For the last few years my parents and I have gone out and cut our own Christmas trees. A $10 permit and a trip to the woods with family always makes for a great tree. But last year I sold my Suburban, leaving us without a mountain vehicle. My parents have a Forester that we were going to put racks on to acquire the trees, but then it snowed way to much to be diving around in the backcountry. So we were in bad shape and you can't stop Christmas from coming. Then the parents went to the local xmas tree seller up the street, as they approached, they saw a tree lying on the ground and asked how much it would be. The seller replied 'that ol tree is free, missing to many branches'. Well my parents didn't think so and decided to get that tree for me, and because the seller was nice enough to give a tree to them they went inside and purchased a tree for themselves! Best tree I've ever had.
It comes down today...

My mom had her hip replaced on Tuesday and was home on Thursday and is now on almost no painkillers. (only for when she moves)
The most expensive part of the surgery was the parking that I had to pay - $31.00 and the prescription medication afterwards - $25.00.
Oh, and diesel for driving back and forth into town - about $80.
Mom had the hospital room by herself and the nurses were remarking on how quiet it was in the hospital overall.

Very happy for my mom and her future enjoyment of life.(y)

OMG, how in the world do animals figure stuff like that out?!
Congrats to your mom, Mitch! I suspect hip replacement is something we may all experience in our futures, so it's nice to hear great results in such short order!
I have no idea why I have been gone for so long! I sure missed everyone. What has happened in the last couple of months that I need to catch up on? Got the newsletter via e-mail. Neat!
