OMG, what a tragedy indeed!!! Once I was traveling, stopped at a McDonalds for lunch, and sirens went off next door at the nursing home. Everyone was watching and standing around. Ambulance, police, nurses, scrambling to get all the residents out, smoke coming out of the building. A lady was in McD with her 2 small children, I heard her say she needed to go help, but was frantic about the kids! I turned to her and said, "I will stay here as long as necessary and watch your kids. Please, go help!" She did! It was a very rewarding thing for me, and I took care of those kids like they were my own. We went and played in the play area, instead of watching the commotion, so they would not be afraid of their mother getting hurt. She returned in about an hour. Told me she worked there, but it was her day off. Can you imagine what she was going through, the need to go help her residents, but also to keep her children safe? I'm so glad she trusted me to watch her kids. That doesn't happen much now, people are so untrusting. That was about 20 years ago or more.
