I am attempting to learn win 8.1 after being on a xp lappy for 7 years, it started dieing big time. So replaced it. Got the basics down, still not sure how to find folders, easily lol. Can't load photos, photos loader died, need to pull photos off my old puter and place on this one, once I know how to find them once they are put on here. Keeps the brain young!

Love the touch screen, a mix of a android tab and a windows computer, type, speak, touch to get it done, take your pick. But it is a learning curve. this lappy is 3 lbs, my other one 12 lbs, that is a blessing, lol

I use Windows 7 and 8.1 for my business and Macintosh for entertainment.
For anit-virus/security I use Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows and Sophos on the Macintosh. Both are free.
I think all 3 operating systems are very stable and safe now, plus a newer computer will be much faster. I'm sure you'll be happy with the upgrade. :)

lol tell me how to find folders easily on win 8 It says to click on the user icon right upper corner.........nope no files. I can find them via explorer etc but to me should be a quick and easy way, but then again it is windows. It is probably just a lack of knowledge on my part, doing a lot of searchs and reading on how to use win 8.1. We have android tabs, android phones, easy, I used mac years ago.

I have only had it for 3 days now, getting it set up, things loaded etc. Have a paid for sub for virus for a year, came with the lappy, then will convert back to free, love free lol.

and this one is so much faster than my xp, I would boot it up, walk away, come back in 4 mins or so to use. This one, hit boot up, done............

I did load explorer ++, made the folder files easier to set up the way you want to see them, learning lol, saved one file and actually found it!

I only run 8.1 in it's desktop mode, which is in the lower left hand part of the start screen. I don't use any of those other little boxes.
Then it's just like older versions of windows, with the start icon on the lower left corner.
I also don't care for the touch screen, I hook up a regular wired mouse.

thanks, I figured out the lower left corner, that does work, also keyboard short cuts help. Just taking some time to get it all set up lol, thought I killed it, did a bios update they recommended, had no response afterwards. Luckily have other computers we can do searches on for fixes, that one was easy hold power button down for 8 seconds, hit again,...............whew booted up.

lol thanks colleen, it dawned on me I had not saved anything yet, so therefore all the folders said empty! (brain fart lol) I am finding the easiest way to find the folders etc is to go to desktop there they sit nicely. I like the way explorer ++ organizes things, free download, lol A little more user friendly. Right now I have both running see which one I do end up with.

I am really liking it, easy swipes (touch screen swipes) to move to the top of pages etc, easier on my hands rather than mousing all of time. Using the touch pad and a mouse is so hard on my hands, makes them hurt big time.

Yes Addy, I have that touch pad too, but not the touch screen, should have waited a couple days and got the touch screen too, cause it was coming in the next day, but I was in a rush to get the the lap top and I already have a touch screen on this tablet, and after a while the prints from your fingers stay in the screen forever, even after you turn it off!! Could just be this tablet, but I just wanted a nice clean screen to view stuff....

You should always wipe the screen often when you have a touch ,that's what the tech guys say .I have those micro fiber screen wipes .I also bought a screen saver for over mine ,don't buy the cheap ones as they do not conduct as good .
