It's an old one, no pump or motor on it, just a fun windmill! It will have landscaping planted around it, soon. I want a BIG Aeromotor someday ... and then have my farm pond redug and use it on that, but that's a pipe dream, I imagine, so this 10' one will have to do for my visual pleasure for now. I only paid $40 for it, and the tower is sturdy enough to climb on! Can't say that for the 6-8' ones you get at the local farm stores. I've had them, they vibrate and fall apart in a year or so. At least I learned you HAVE to have them anchored with concrete. With the wind I get out here, I'm seriously wondering if the windmill will lift and come right out of the holder! I sure hope not, but will know by this time next year. I've always had a fascination with windmills, so this is a partial dream come true for me. And, my dusk to dawn light shines on it, so I can see it all night long, too. Win-win!
Sissy, I have Rustoleum spray paint, so will try using just that this year. If that doesn't work, it wouldn't be hard to sand it off and redo next year.

If anyone likes live web cams of wildlife, here is a link to the Katmai National Park, Alaska Brooks Falls. Brown bears are anxiously awaiting the salmon run, which evidently has not yet started, but the brown bears are sure getting their places saved for the big event! Sometimes there are as many as 7 or 8 bears at a time. My sister said earlier today there was a mama with her 2 cubs in the water.

Sissy your palms are going to have seeds and make babies! I picked some Windmill Palm seeds off the ground at the zoo in Seattle and have a palm tree from one of them now. It's grown up a bit now. Think it will take many yrs to get really tall tho.

sissy, here is what my seeds looked like and the trees had these kind of flowering stuff on them where the seeds fell off from. Think I remember the seeds being like maybe 1/4" or so. I planted them in potting soil w/ some sand mixed in and it took months for mine to germinate indoors so you gotta be patient. Maybe in your warmer weather it will take less time. I didn't plant them very deep, just covered w/ some soil and watered them when dry. Here is the way they say to do it from the net:

Wish I could find hardy palms here .... My spindle palm has to come inside for the winter, and is growing VERY slowly, just now putting out the 2nd branch since it has been outside, which is ok, then I don't have to worry about it getting too huge! But, would be nice to have more palms.

CE guess you can't find them there cuz it's too cold for them in the winter?

Just found this on the net CE: http://www.tytyga.com/Illinois-trees-a/279.htm

Other Plants for Illinois

Every Illinois pool or patio landscape needs that tropical look that can only be achieved in Florida, right? Wrong, Ty Ty Nursery offers Northern, cold hardy palm trees that have survived temperatures well below zero. The Windmill Palm Tree and the Needle Palm Trees are the two most cold hardy palm trees, and both will survive the cold and harsh Illinois winters with no problem. It is simple, just order your cold hardy windmill palm trees today and Ty Ty Nursery ships tomorrow.

We are just a bit too cold for things like hardy banana plants. Just a bit down the road in Amarillo they can grow such things but it is too hot for me down that way. Go figure.

My Hardy Musa Bajoo banana trees made it through a few days of -6F a few years ago. The cold doesn't last too long here tho. Not many days of freezing weather but we do get some. How cold do you get HTH and for how long?
