Dog sitting... What have I done! :bye2:

We are sitting a dog for the whole month of July. 4 days in and things are getting a bit better. The first 24 hours were a struggle; he was upset and got the runs. The good thing is he is a very good puppy, I think I am the one that needs the training as I am not a dog person. It took me two days before I would let him sniff another dog. That was a huge mistake because he would pull and pull to go to the other dog. I realized all he needed was a sniff. I will learn but I think I have sacrificed a lot of my July. It’s like having a baby in the house again.

Event, can we assume you are dog/puppy sitting for a family member? What a great person you are, for a whole month, too! Yep, by the end of that month, the pup will have YOU trained to HIS expectations. If the owner didn't give you any specific pointers on how he has been trained, then maybe you will retrain him while you have him. Have fun!!! :blueflower:

It’s my kid’s / ex’s dog. A bit of a strange situation as my ex works for me. Before they got the dog they asked if it would be ok to bring it to work; so the dog knows me as he is the “office dog”. I know the commands that he knows, but I know things will be different here than at home. Take the couch for instance, I have no idea what’s allowed at home but my couches are crap so I don’t care. He’s a cutie so it’s all good... downtown, bars everything else can wait until August.

Oh my, is that a King Charles Spaniel? He's gorgeous! And, how nice of him to pose so beautifully for all those pond pics. He must be a very smart dog indeed. Sounds like you will have a fun time this month with him. The way I figure it is if he's not allowed on the furniture at his home, it won't make any difference if you let him on yours, cause he's not at his other home. :) They know the difference, it seems.

Yes, he is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He really is well behaved but I know he is taking advantage of me.... I just don’t know how. It’s probably all the extra attention he is getting. He is just under 1 year old. Well I am glad to hear about the couch that might be the biggest change if it is not allowed at home. Again I am not a dog person, but I find it amazing how obedient they are. He comes on the couch all the time to get on my lap, but when we are eating dinner sitting on the couch and I say off, he gets off and stays off. Try and get my cats to get off!

I would not worry too much about the couch things. Dog's rule books are location specific if I recall correctly.

He can know it is OK to be on your couch but not OK at home. He might have to be told no once or twice but he will get it.

SON: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?"
DAD: "Yeah sure, what is it?"
SON: "Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"
DAD: "That's none of your business. Why do you... ask such a thing?"
SON: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"
DAD: "If you must know, I make $100 an hour."
SON: "Oh! (With his head down).
SON: "Daddy, may I please borrow $50?"
The father was furious.
DAD: "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior."

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.
The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 50 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

DAD: "Are you asleep, son?"

SON: "No daddy, I'm awake".
DAD: "I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $50 you asked for."

The little boy sat straight up, smiling.
SON: "Oh, thank you daddy!"
Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

DAD: "Why do you want more money if you already have some?"

SON: "Because I didn't have enough, but now I do.

"Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."
The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness. It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love? If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.

Some things are more important.
