Well just put these options in front of your kids Lou.................show them what you want done and then show them how much it will cost. Then give them the option of doing the work for you or watching their inheritance money go out the window
Oh J.W. that would be wonderful even if not possible. Life and times have sure changed. Cathy and I had a long discussion awhile back about the increased challenges faced by our married children. Regardless of the amount of physical help received we are so blessed by their love and forthright qualities.

Big Lou, the landscape will still need to be maintained to keep it looking good all year, are you planning on maintaining it yourself? I know I have to do everything around here myself or it would not happen. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you have too, now I think the spring yard work is all that keeps me healthy and active, a little at a time and a good dose of sunshine and fresh air!
I need to rebuilt my back fence this year, so my sister says to me "who going to do it?" I replied "me!"

One reason for the high project price is that all bush varieties and Little Gem tree and perninals are free form and require no pruning. Four bushes require trimming once a year. We along with our yard crew will take care of weeding and such. I really look forward to working in the yard as much as possible. Should have plans finalized this week. Maybe I can scan in drawings for upload.

Would love to see your new landscape designs, Lou! I agree with you, Colleen, the yard work may be hard at times, but it's what keeps me healthy and in shape.
I got home late this morning from cousin's house in southern Indiana. Helped them paint their HUGE home's foyer, LR, 3 hallways, very large kitchen and larger eating area/play space for the boys, plus DR. I love to trim painting, and can free hand it pretty well, and although not perfect, I probably do as well as most! With my cousin and her husband and I working as a team, we moved furniture (her husband), I trimmed, he followed up rolling while my cousin cleaned trim, curtains, greenery and so forth that got moved out of the way, and when a room was done, we all helped move stuff back in place after replacing all the switch plates. By the time Sun evening rolled around, we had all that done, and I might add it looks wonderful! After living in the home (they had it built) 10 years and with 5 boys, you can imagine the drawings, ball marks, etc. on the walls. The threat of "no balls in the house" was putting those boys into withdrawals, I swear. LOL They are a very athletic and sports minded family, and those boys do not know what to do without a ball in their hands. They were tossing balls at the walls and catching them all those years, and man were those calls filthy with ball marks. But, oh so fun to cover and make the walls look new and clean again. I had a super time, lots of family fun (2 basketball games Sat. a.m. and then Sunday school and church and Mexican restaurant on Sun.) in between painting. I was glad to be part of that step in getting their house ready to sell. They want to downsize, with one in college, one a senior in H.S., and 3 more younger, payments are too high to afford all they need to live.
Oh, and I also learned that I cannot see how people can browse the internet on their smart phones! I got on their wireless with my Ipod, which is about the same size, and could not have just that to use to read all that I love to read on here and FB and the internet on a daily basis. Eyes are bad enough as it is! Glad to be home to full-sized screen and computer.

I may try to scan in the plans. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. So happy for you.

Oops, sounds like free would not be a good price then. Good thing you asked and looked up more info on them, Sissy. I sure would not want something that grows that fast. I planted some Royal Empress tree seeds, and they are also invasive in the south, but not in this area; however, it looks like they also may not bloom if we have a normal winter ... which we have not had for the last 2 winters. :) They are supposedly excellent wood for building things, and grow 8-10' per year, which is unbelievable to me if they are good for furniture and so forth. My neighbor asked me to help get some started, but if they don't sprout soon, there won't be anything to give away when his daughter is born in mid-April! Guess I'd better get a heat pad and put it under the seed starter box.

Thought you might like to read a discussion about the Royal Empress tree.

Those trees sound like if they freeze each year you will not ever get any of the pretty blue flowers that you plant them for.
